Full description

Take a day tour of Monserrat from Barcelona and enjoy the area's natural beauty. Visit the monastery before boarding a funicular to reach sweeping views of Catalonia from the mountaintop.

Meet your guide at the local partner's office in Barcelona and settle in for the hour-long ride to Montserrat.

Your first stop is the Benedictine Abbey. Explore this 11th-century religious sanctuary home to Catalonia’s patron saint: The Black Madonna. Next, board the funicular railway and ascend to the top of the mountain. Enjoy stunning views of valleys, mountains, and the sea. Hike on the same paths used by pilgrims hundreds of years ago as you admire Montserrat’s fascinating flora and fauna. Wander past rocky pillars and ravines as you breathe in the mountain air. Have some free time back in the monastery area after your hike. Browse the local market before you catch a ride back to Barcelona.

It was such a great tour! Uni was amazing! The views were beautiful , and the history of the monastery was interesting to learn. The only thing I would say is this hike is quite intense up hill (it was fine for us, but difficult for some in our group). This tour allows for the train to take you to the top so you only hike down. But the other tour (it looks almost the same) does not include the train. We didn’t realize that while booking and we booked this one with the train even tho we wanted to hike.

Uni, our guide was perfect. He held the tour in German and English and the drive to Montserrat was informative. Due to the good planning, we were in the monastery before the large tourist groups. We were also able to go to the Black Madonna". My husband and I then took the funicular up the mountain and the rest of the group hiked up. The view is simply gigantic. Highlight: Escolania the best European children's choir sings at 1 p.m. in the basilica. We got us maps on arrival at the information desk and were able to skip the queue and into the basilica! We drove back to the city at about 1.30 p.m.A great excursion with an authentic guide who responds to the group!

Our guide (uni) was super nice and even the drive to Montserrat was informative. Due to the good planning, we (a total of 3 x 2 participants) were ahead of the large tourist groups in the monastery and in the cable car. The walk from the cable car station back to the monastery is easily manageable and Uni offered an option at a more difficult point or at other points offered the opportunity to wait until the group was back from a viewpoint, for example. Also, he always had an eye on the laggards. This trip was really worth it.
