Manaus: Old City Guided Tour Plus Amazon River Boat Tour

2. Manaus: Old City Guided Tour Plus Amazon River Boat Tour

Learn about the history and culture of Manaus, Amazona's capital in the heart of the Amazon rainforest. Then take a speedboat down the Amazon River to witness the Meeting of the Waters and a floating village.   You’ll be picked up from your hotel and drive to the historical center of "old Manaus." On a walking tour through town, notice the facades of the neoclassical buildings created during the rubber boom of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Visit the majestic Amazon Theatre opera house in the main square, and head to the market complex to see the three buildings known as the banana market, fish market, and municipal market. Check out the Rio Negro Palace, formerly a German rubber baron's residence that is now a museum. Next you will drive through the port and embark on a speedboat to witness the most impressive phenomenon of the Rio Negro and Amazon River, or Solimões River as it is called upstream, that run side by side without mixing their waters. Then venture to the floating village where all the houses, school, churches, bars, restaurants, and other structures are built on logs to float on the lake. Disembark at a floating fish farm and have an encounter with one of the biggest freshwater fish in the world, the famous pirarucu.   Get back in the boat for a nice ride upstream heading to Lake January, filled with giant waterlilies. Have a walk on a suspended walkway as high as the canopy of the trees, and see the sumaumeira, the biggest species of tree in the Amazon.

Amazonas: Boat Ride with a Local Amazonian

3. Amazonas: Boat Ride with a Local Amazonian

See over a hundred houses floating on a lake, built on logs of a local tree that lasts for over 50 years in the water. Visit a "Pirarucu" fish farm, navigate through the flooded forest, known as "Igapó" and discover the phenomenon of two rivers meeting together. Enjoy beautiful scenery, while passing by boat at the same level of the canopy of some trees, with rivers reaching over 15 meters high. Visit a "Pirarucu" fish farm of the largest fish, reaching over two meters long and as heavy 250 kilos. Play with these river monsters with a fishing rod (without hook, so you don't harm them) and have fun, while feeling the power of their bite. Marvel at one of the most impressive and intriguing world phenomenons, when two rivers, so different in color, velocity, temperature and density run side by side without mixing their waters. Be invited to touch the waters, while passing from one river to the other and feel the clear difference of temperature. Return to your hotel after this great experience, with unforgettable memories.

Wilton is a great guide and has her own little boat. He knows and loves his city and the Amazon region. The tour with him is much better than with organized large groups. He knows people everywhere and shows the peculiarities. He is a professional, totally trustworthy guide. He also speaks English, I can't judge how well, because we spoke Portuguese.

Everything went great! The guide got in touch on time and picked us up from the hotel. No delays or questions. The program was well planned, we rested comfortably.
