From Munich: Salzburg, St. Wolfgang, and the Salzkammergut

1. From Munich: Salzburg, St. Wolfgang, and the Salzkammergut

This trip will take you through the picturesque foothills of the Bavarian Alps. You'll be able to see the enchanting Chiemsee, also called the "Bavarian Sea," which, with an area of nearly 80 km², is the largest lake in Bavaria. In Salzburg, the city of Mozart, you will have around 2.5 hours to see the city's impressive buildings, take in the vistas, and wander through the beautiful Baroque old town. Of particular note are, for example, the Hohensalzburg fortress and the birthplace of Mozart. The cathedral, Hellbrunn Palace, and the fountains are not to be missed. The old town offers many other worthwhile attractions, from fine boutiques and culinary delicacies to art, culture, and all else the heart could desire. The next part of the tour takes place in the summer only (from April until November): The tour will then take you onwards through the Salzkammergut to the Wolfgangsee. There you will have the chance to take a boat trip to St. Wolfgang, to the Hotel zum Weißen Rössl, and to visit the pilgrimage church. There is one more exciting highlight waiting for you on the return journey : a stop at the Mondsee, a location for the film "The Trapp Family." Be enthralled by this tour to Salzburg and the Salzkammergut. If you're visiting during the winter (from November to April), instead of the visit to St. Wolfgang you'll get to enjoy more time in Salzburg. During December you'll also be able to visit the Christkindlmarket.

What people are saying about Mauterndorf

We loved the tour, it is so worth it and the boat ride was phenomenal. The only thing we would have liked is to spend more time in Salzburg, to enter the Mozart museum and explore the city more calmly. I think that with 3 hours it would have been perfect. They only gave us an hour and a half to be in the city and very little was done for us. Everything else was amazing and our guide Paul very kind and friendly.

A full on busy day which I would describe as a taster visit, allowing you time to appreciate rather than absorb everything in Salzburg. The trip on the boat is extra & is definitely worth it. PAUL was an excellent guide being both entertaining & informative; his whistle stop walking tour around Salzburg really did help get the most out of the trip.

This was a most satisfying trip. We were a group with Paul who is an outstanding guide. He is clear in his instructions, very knowledgeable and very entertaining. The time in Salzburg is only enough to get a taste of all there is to offer but the time spent traveling to Saint Wolfgang and the boat trip more than make up for any frustration.

We loved the tour and our very nice and funny guide. The only thing is that we were very tight on time and there wasn't much time to go around and take so many photos. But overall it's worth it.

Extremely lovely. Tour was well worth it. Wolfgangsee was the bomb!
