Full description
Experience the Middle Ages come alive at Mauterndorf Castle, located in the middle of the beautiful Lungau region. Surrounded by impressive mountain ranges, the castle majestically rests on a little hill, above the town of Mauterndorf. This place used to be a former toll station, that also served as a temporary summer residence for Salzburg's prince archbishops. During your visit, meet the lord of the castle, Archbishop Leonhard von Keutschach, as well as his entourage in person and spend an unforgettable day together. Grab an audio guide to learn more about this impressive monument. Learn about the rich history housed within the castle's walls and enjoy the exhibition within the castle grounds. Explore the chambers, vaults, and halls. Step inside the private rooms of former lords which have been kept and redeveloped in a way to make this place's history tangible for its visitors. Also, benefit from excellent catering and restaurant facilities. Your kids will be entertained as well - audioguides are available in 9 languages and kids versions. Don't forget to drop by at the Lungau Regional Museum (only open during summer). Learn about the land, the people and their lives, and have a look at the mineral collection, the Mauterndorfer Samson, and other curiosities, than are displayed.

The castle was very interesting, the story well presented with attention to detail. There was only a problem with the Getyour Guide Ticket at the entrance, the Q-Code cannot be scanned at the entrance. The lady called it a system problem. But the castle was great except for the fact that there has been no gastro there for over 2 years. because those responsible make the framework conditions (lease) so unrelated to practice that every interested party jumps off. Well sad because the location would be great and the last tenant was a pearl when you hear the people from the place.
