Full description
Spend the day among the purple-blue sea of the lavender fields of Provence, which bloom stunning shades of lilac and mauve from June through August. Start your day in the beautiful city of Aix-en-Provence, fondly known as the “city of art and water.” Located approximately 19 miles (30 kilometers) from Marseille, Aix dates back to Roman times and has a wide promenade called the “Cours Mirabeau” that is lined with plane trees. Discover the cafés that were once frequented by Cezanne, Camus, and Zola. Go to one of the numerous markets that take place in the city center every day, and admire the shimmering palette of fragrances and colors. After some free time for lunch on your own, continue along the picturesque roads lined with golden wheat and blue lavender fields. Your driver will stop for plenty of photo opportunties en route to Valensole, with free time to explore this traditional Provencal village on arrival. They will also give useful information about the uses of lavender essential oil, and the lavender crop in Provence in general.

Great spots

Our driver took us to some lovely spots to see the lavender fields and sunflowers. Loved our visit to Aix. I was surprised that the driver was not with us during our visit to Aix like a guide, but I actually preferred it this way. 3 hours in Aix felt right but we could stay there the whole day :) Felt overpriced though as we didn't have a guide to accompany us. The driver took us to places, gave us suggestions and presentations about the history and present of Aix and lavender culture, but that's it.

Worth the money

The tour covered all good spots for viewing the lavender fields. Our guide Virginie was very friendly, had good knowledge of the area and was accommodating to our needs ( we travelled with a ~2 year old!). We felt at ease during the trip even with a small baby, thanks to Virginie (and our co passengers). One suggestion in general we have is to modify this tour itinerary so that we spend even more time in the lavender field (though we did spend ~15 mins per field it appeared very short :) )

It was a nice day trip, but one would have liked to have had more time in the lavender fields to be able to enjoy the time there. In Aix en Provence, too much time was planned again, so it was a bit tedious on a Sunday and closed shops. Nevertheless, the trip is recommended
