Learn about the history and culture of Morocco on this guided tour of Marrakech. On this 2-part tour (both parts lasting 3 hours), you will explore the medina and the souks, and enjoy a delicious lunch at a stylish riad inbetween. To start off the tour you will explore the southern medina with its stunning historical buildings. Visit the magnificent Bahia Palace and the tombs of the former Saadi dynasty. Stroll through the Jewish Quarter, past the Mellah, and across the market of Mellah. If there is enough time, you can also see the ruins of El Badi Palace with the historical pulpit of Koutoubia Mosque. Enjoy lunch at the stylish Riyad El Cadi. Discover the classic architecture of Moroccan homes: a house surrounding a courtyard with a beautiful garden, which is sheltered from the busy streets. Depending on the season, you can eat on the sunny roof terrace or in the cool shade of the citrus trees. Enjoy a salad and a main course, prepared in advance according to your tastes. After lunch you will continue on to the artisan neighborhood of the city. See metal welding, leather workers, woodworkers, and henna women at work. Visit vegetable markets, communal ovens, and a traditional Berber pharmacy where you can find natural remedies for many ailments and medical conditions. Mhamed was our guide for the day. He was very knowledgeable and happy to share as much information as you want/needed. He guided us expertly from the square through to key attractions and explained the history and cultural significance. He also took us into the markets to quality stores for pottery, carpet, herbs and artefacts (no obligation to buy at all). Lunch at Riyad el Cadi was sensational. As an additional service he helped us find a lovely restaurant for dinner. Definitely recommend.

I would highly recommend this tour.

I would highly recommend this tour. You get a great overview of the medina. palais and the souks. Our guide had a great knowledge and also tried to match our interests. We had a privat lunch at the garden of a riad which was very nice before hitting to the souks away from the typical touristic "shops"

Not as advertised

I chose this tour for a chance to see 'off the beaten track' sights of Marrakech for a whole day and the description stated that shopping would be avoided. Riad el Cadi were great in arranging for the guide to pick me up as I was late. We started our tour nearer 11 as a result, so I expected to walk for maybe 2h am and 3h pm, but we did only 1.5h am and 2h pm. Lunch at the Riad was good. The artisan quarter and the mellah were great. Briefly visited part of the Bahia palace but had to pay my own entry free. We did not visit the Saadian tombs, El Badi or a Berber pharmacy, or see any henna women. We walked past the Madrasa and my guide Mohamed seemed surprised when I asked to go in. We did go to a carpet salesroom, an argan oil salesroom, and various other boutiques run by Mohamed's friends. I also waited around a fair bit while he shopped and chatted. He was polite but bored and I had to run to keep up as he walked ahead allowing no time for photos. Not recommended.
