Full description

Discover the edge of the Sahara Desert on a 3-day budget tour from Marrakech, and explore the dramatic landscapes of the Dades Valley and Kasbah of Ourzazate. Ride across the dunes of Erg Chebbi by camel, and sleep at a desert camp surrounded by high sand dunes.

Day 1: Marrakech - Ait Ben Haddou - Dades

After an early departure from the Marrakech hotel, your journey begins by crossing the High Atlas Mountains past one Berber village after another to the UNESCO world heritage site of Ait Ben Haddou, famous for its Kasbah and fortified village, and previously used as a set for some famous Hollywood epics as well as a backdrop for some fashion magazines photo shoots.

After some leisure time to explore the village with its Kasbah, enjoy lunch in a local restaurant, then continue your drive through Ouarzazate, known as the Gate of the Sahara and onto Boumalne Dades, admiring the scenic drive along the Dades valley, where you can enjoy dinner and an overnight stop.

Day 2: Dades - Todgha Gorges - Merzouga

Following breakfast, depart your hotel and drive to Tinghir and it's dramatic Todgha Gorges, pausing for some free time to explore the canyons and enjoy lunch at a local café. Continue to Merzouga to meet your camel caravan.

Then, experience the Erg Chebbi dunes on camelback and watch the sunset change the color of the sand. Reach your desert camp before nightfall and enjoy an authentic Moroccan dinner under the stars. Local nomads will provide the entertainment and show you how to play the Tam Tam drums. Enjoy dinner and an overnight stop.

Day 3: Merzouga Ouarzazate - Marrakech

Following an early wake up to watch the sunrise before breakfast (optional), a driver will be waiting to pick you up for the transfer back to Marrakech. Stop half-way for lunch in Ouarzazate. End your tour with drop-off at your original departure point or Djemaa El Fna around 8 PM. You can also book upgrades for the night in the Bedouin camp as an optional extra. Upgrade to the deluxe desert camp with a luxury private tent complete with ensuite shower, bathroom facilities, and 5* amenities. These upgrades need to be booked per person.

It was a lovely trip. Intense and packed with stunning views, also quite some hard work to be in the bus for such long hours. All the guides were amazing. Especially Ahmed who showed us his Berber ways with passion and smiles and Yousuf who drove us with unbelievable diligence for the whole trip to the desert and back. Definitely not for the faint hearted, expect many hours of travel on the bus and a tight schedule.

Unique experience. To be done only in groups and accompanied. Needless to say, the infinite positive notes. Magnificent places. Negative notes: long and tiring journey, but to be done at least once in a lifetime. The minivan is a bit uncomfortable for the many hours of travel. The first night's hotel is very basic. With the basic package, the desert tent is shared, there are 4 camp beds. Meals are monotonous. But compared to the price, affordable, I didn't expect more. In conclusion, a lot of spirit of adaptation and adventure is needed. Fantastic and unforgettable experience!

I 100% recommend doing this one in a lifetime experience! You will have a great driver, amazing guides and see a lot of beautiful sights and landscapes. The hotel on the first night was great and the tents in the desert are private and confortable. The food is good and there are a few stops along the way to the desert to take breaks that are important because it is a long ride! So worth it though! You will learn so much more about Morocco and the berber culture. It was a unique experience and you’ll get a lot for what you pay for. The camel riding and watching the sunset and the sunrise on the desert dunes was breath taking!
