Tromsø: Dog Sledding and Guided Ice Domes Visit

1. Tromsø: Dog Sledding and Guided Ice Domes Visit

Combine a dog sledding adventure followed by a guided visit to the magical Tromsø Ice Domes. Set among high mountains in the beautiful Tamok Valley, the Tromsø Ice Domes are built every year as the Polar Night approaches. For this tour, you will be picked up from the city center of Tromsø, from which you will be taken to the wilderness center in Camp Tamok. Upon arrival at Tromsø Ice Domes, receive warm winter clothing and learn how to steer the dog sled. Dog sledding with the Alaskan huskies is an active experience. The sled team consists of two and two people on one sled sharing a team of huskies. Teamwork is essential in dog sledding and together with the team, you will help to push on parts of the tour. After the dog sledding, visit the Ice Domes where the ice bar, cinema, and suites have themes ranging from local Sami culture to the Northern Lights conveyed through beautiful colored lighting and wonderful ice sculptures. Join a guided tour and learn about the construction process of the ice hotel and the impact the snow has on the survival of Arctic animals. There will be time to walk around freely and ask questions to the experienced guide. You will be able to purchase other drinks at the ice restaurant or ice bar. During this combination tour, you will get a chance to visit a small herd of reindeer near the Ice Domes for reindeer feeding.

We booked many tours during our 10 days in Norway and this tour was without a doubt the highlight of holiday. The tour started with a short drive in a big bus to Camp Tamok, a very beautiful camp that has many activities like dog sledding, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, reindeer visit, and ice domes visit. I think you could also stay the night here. At first I was a bit skeptic seeing that we were going with a big bus and we prefer to be in a smaller group. But when we arrived, they split us into small groups depending on activities that we booked and the size for the dog sledding was just perfect, was 8 of us including 2 guides, 2 persons per sled, so total 4 sledding carts. Perfect. We had the most amazing time dog sledding to a very beautiful view of mountains and secluded trees and frozen lake area. It’s truly magical. The dog can run very very fast depending on your weight. After the dog sled, we visited the magical ice dome which was also cool! See photos and video on my IG @tmothi

Amazing experience on our first day in Tromso. Early morning Bus/coach from city centre to wilderness location about 1.5 hours drive away. Gorgeous scenery on route (despite it being late December and so small part of the day is in half light and rest is dark). Sledding was fun with beautiful dogs who knew what they were doing so not too taxing, although as snow not that deep, we had to help with pushing up hills. Lovely lunch sitting in tented area with wood fire. If vegetarian- remember to say when booking - I had a tasty bean stew while others had reindeer stew. Ice domes were magical, and was the stories of great Norwegian explorers (the theme for the carvings) although I would let want to stay in one for too long - brrrr! A long day but worth it :-) Quite expensive but think that’s the going rate ?

Such an amazing experience. It was my first time to do any snow activity and the guides were very friendly and explained everything. They made sure to check on our sledge during entire activity which made us very comfortable and less nervous. Each guide at the activity was very friendly and helpful. They made our day fun and memorable. I would recommend them to everybody who is visiting Tromso and want to do winter activities. Also so much of love to the 4 huskies who pulled us through the mountain. They were full of energy and enthusiasm. Would really love to visit again and do more winter activities with this group :)

Surprisingly, this was the best part of our trip in Tromso. This is my family's first time to do dog sledding and we enjoyed it very much. Our coach explained clearly what to expect/do; our guide was our number 1 cheerer and watched us and took care of us throughtout the trip. After the dog sledding, we all went for lunch and the hot berry tea was a hit and so was the hot fish soup -- just what we needed after almost 1.5 hrs out in the cold, If anyone will be in Tromso, this activity is a must and should be experienced!

Excellent customer service, value for money and the whole trip was well organized. Highly recommended!
