Wine and Tapas in Madrid: 2.5 Hour Tour

1. Wine and Tapas in Madrid: 2.5 Hour Tour

This tapas tour in the historical part of Madrid will give you a new perspective of the city from an old point of view. There are two sides to Madrid - the one you see as a tourist and the one you need a local person to show you. We’d like to invite you to enjoy the experience of tapas as locals do. You will discover hidden spots in the very heart of Madrid, each of which has something special to offer, be it a typical dish, a specific type of wine or its atmosphere. Go to a bar, enjoy your wine and your free tapas, order something extra to eat if it catches your fancy and, once you’ve finished, move on to the next venue. It´s as simple as that!  This is a truly unforgettable experience of wines and tapas. Get ready to taste a fantastic parade of dishes and wines from various regions of Spain. By the end of the evening you will have discovered the history of the origin of the dishes. Some are rooted several hundred years ago, as old as the streets you will stroll along. Example itinerary: First of all you will meet up with the rest of the tour group at the meeting point in the Santa Ana Square. It is important to be on time. Walk to the first stop while the guide tells anecdotes about Madrid. The first stop will be at a place that is traditional in its concept and has been running for more than 80 years. The bar is tucked away at the back of a shop. If you like what you eat or drink in the bar, you can purchase it from the shop. This place is a temple to Iberian ham and you can try dozens of types of cheese. You will choose the drink and can taste 3 or 4 dishes. After leaving the first tavern, you will walk on to the second stop while the guide comments about Madrid. In an old-style Castilian tavern, surrounded by painted tiles and huge blackboards showing the names of dozen of wines sold by the glass and the daily tapas available, you will get acquainted with the history of tapas. The guide will advise on the wines and will order more dishes for you. Another tavern found their recipe for success a hundred years ago serving garlic shrimp cooked on the spot and served with vermouth or wine. They haven’t changed it a bit in the time since. Once again the guide will advise you the on wine and ask for the food for you. On to the next venue, the warmth of the wine and the food will make the walk to the last tavern pleasant. You will finish in a typical “Madrid tavern”. Hidden and cozy, where full-bodied wine is served along with warm dishes and roguish conversation. You will try some more dishes and some desserts to finish with a sweet taste. After leaving the last bar the tour has finished. The food and drink will have filled you and you will have completed the whole Madrid tapas experience. The guide will be able to indicate where to go next if you want to continue your evening. This itinerary is an example, the taverns and bars may change depending on the dates but all have the highest quality standards and are places that Madrid locals go to. Someone said that to be a madrileño you just need to spend the night in Madrid and enjoy the streets more than your home. This tour offers you the freedom of the city, its drinks and its dishes.

Madrid Region Wineries: Guided Tour and Tastings

5. Madrid Region Wineries: Guided Tour and Tastings

The wine country of the Madrid region is just a short drive from the city center. The picturesque countryside is home to wineries that blend tradition and innovation. On this full-day tour we’ll visit 3 wineries where you’ll learn about winemaking and the history of wine in this part of Spain. The Madrid region’s wineries have supplied the capital with wine from the time the Castilians conquered the city occupied by the Moors. Winemaking has been carried out for over 900 years on the fertile river bank area where the Manzanares, Tajuña, Jarama, Henares and Tajo rivers meet. You’ll see the clay vats and centennial caves and the vineyards with seemingly endless rows of tempranillo grapes used in making Spain’s full-bodied red wines. You’ll also taste wines at each of the wineries you visit.  South of the Sierra de Guadarrama's granite foothills are the environmentally protected territories where the wine suppliers to the thirsty and growing new capital of the 16th-century Spanish Empire grew their grapes and made their wines. The wines produced here were celebrated in the writings of Cervantes and all the Golden Century writers and painters, and from the Royal Palace to every tavern in the city.
