Full description
The Prado Museum is Madrid’s top cultural sight and one of the world’s greatest art galleries. Its dazzling display of works by the great European masters — such as Velázquez, Goya, Raphael, Rubens, and Bosch, among other major Italian and Flemish artists — is housed in an 18th-century neoclassical building that opened as a museum in 1819. The Spanish queen at the time had been impressed with the Louvre in Paris and wanted to showcase an enormous collection in her own country. The result is several thousand works from that time, with a recent modern extension allowing even more of them to be displayed. The tour begins with the most famous masterpieces from European artists like El Bosco. Continue delving into the work of Velazquez, followed by artists like El Greco and Goya, among many others. Gain an understanding of all the artists' aims, lives, and circumstances hidden behind the paintings, as well as the historic moment in which they were created. Learn about Spanish history from an art historian and get a closer look at local culture and Madrid's art scene.

good explanations

Despite being the first in the morning we did have to wait in line, k was to enter the museum itself and there was a long queue. It is better not to be sold as a skip the line tour because it leads to confusion. It was 1.5 hours and it's short because the Prado is immense, although they show you the best known. The guide Tamara very well, good explanations. The devices to listen to the explanations were very bad, they half worked sometimes and sometimes they didn't....

Great experience.

Helena was fantastic. Fifteen minutes early, supremely knowledgeable and has a passion for the art. Ask her any question about some detail in a piece of art and she has at least three more minutes of information. I could tell when we turned right and had to leave a hallway of art alone to meet our two hour deadline she would have preferred to take us through each piece. A pleasure to learn from her.

Well organized and On Point

Paula did a very good job at navigating hordes of massive tour groups. We managed to by pass the full contact (image a herd of horses running through your group) nature of the experience. Paula conducted the tour in English and Spanish nicely. Even though young, she was composed and calm with good manners. She selected the "hits" and made it easy for me to spend a couple of hours in the quaint of the afternoon redoing our tour to learn more. The group was a good mix and the diversity added to the experience. I enjoyed the experience and the way Paula led us through El Greco, Bosch, Velazquez and so on. Very good. A word of caution, if you don't have a bit of Spanish history in your education you will miss a ton of important notes about the art here. I bought a text to understand more. This was a great appetizer. I'm ready for dinner now.
