  • Madeira: Rabaçal Valleys 3-Hour Guided Walk

    1. Madeira: Rabaçal Valleys 3-Hour Guided Walk

Enjoy a 3-hour levada (aqueduct) walk with fascinating landscapes incorporating tremendous valleys, spectacular waterfalls, infinite laurel, header forest, and beautiful springs. This and much more is what the Rabaçal area has to offer. At this height the landscape is dominated by moorland, which includes Erica arborea and Erica scoparia as well as Madeiran whortleberry. This vegetation alters with the altitude as it reduces other predominate species, including the rare mountain mocano (Pittosporum coriaceum). This area includes Madeira’s Laurisilva Forest, which has been classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999.

The walk was great. A steady downhill to start then flat but uneven path to the fountains. The hills were shrouded in mist making the temperature just right for walking. We stopped off for coffee before and after the walk.

Absolutely brilliant. Picked us up from the ship, on time and asked where we would like to go. As we had been to Funchal twice we asked to go outside the city. We had four stops and a running commentary all the way through the trip We were actually out for nearly five hours, a bargain for such a personal event We were the envy of all our passengers

I can recommend, we had a very nice, personable guide (Rodriguez), who also responded to our requests, ok the thing is not that cheap, but we didn't regret it.

Uniquely beautiful hike with a great guide but it took a lot longer than 3 hours. Be sure to wear good shoes! I would repeat the tour in a heartbeat.

Well organised group and an excellent guide. Really enjoyed it. Will be booking more trips!
