After a break for tea or coffee in the delightfully refurbished and rustic Cogges Café, you’ll enjoy a tour and learn about the relationship between the tenant farmers and landowners. Next you’ll take a short drive to Bampton, a picturesque Oxfordshire Cotswolds village. The village has been used extensively in Downton village filming. Bampton Library was the site of the Downton Cottage Hospital and doctors’ surgery. St. Mary’s Church became Downton Church and Churchgate House was used as the Crawley’s family home. Built in the early 18th century for the first Duke of Marlborough, John Churchill, this historic stately home was the birthplace of Winston Churchill in 1874. Learn of the wool trade and how it played an important role in the shaping of the history of the area, and hear how the regions decline as a cloth producer saw the Cotswolds become a sleepy backwater, frozen in time. Thanks to the abundance of beautiful old houses in the Cotswolds it has often been used as a place for period dramas on film and TV. Your first stop is the charming village of Bampton which many of you will recognize as the village of Downton from the hit TV series "Downton Abbey". Here you can stroll around the village green and visit the church where a lot of major events took place on screen. See the Cottage Hospital, the post office, and Mrs Crawley's house. Drive along meandering lanes and rolling hills to the beautiful village of Burford where the ancient stone cottages seem to cascade down to the River Windrush. After a guided walk, you will enter an old tavern built in 1402 to have a delicious lunch amongst the old stone floors and wood fires. Continuing on your scenic drive you will head further northwards, arriving at Stow on the Wold with history going back to Roman times. Its vast market square would have held livestock fairs where up to 20,000 sheep would have been bought and sold. Visit the charming 16th century church and the Roman Wells. Stroll down the narrow alleys designed to keep the sheep in the square and the cold north wind out! On this day tour you will explore the main Downton Abbey film locations featured in both Berkshire and Oxfordshire. Leaving the hubbub of London, your afternoon will be spent visiting Downton Village, Yew Tree Farm, and enjoying the picturesque Cotswold scenery and villages. Traveling by traditional London black taxi, the tour will provide you with an insight into the making of the show and uncover stories behind some of the places that you will visit on the tour. Starting in central London, your tour will take you to the first location that you will visit which is about 70 miles out of London. The journey lasts between 1.5-2 hours (depending on traffic). There will be a short stop at the church that Matthew and Edith visit in Series 1 (Episode 3) and you’ll pass the pub where Branson and Lady Sybil stay when they elope in Series 2. Most notably you will visit Downton Village where you will get a guided tour of the village and see familiar sites such as exteriors of Downton hospital, the village pub, the former home of Matthew Crawley and the local church amongst others. Following this guided tour you will be able to explore the village for yourself. From here you will then head to the star of the show itself: Downton Abbey, located in Berkshire. It will take approximately one hour to get to Highclere Castle from Downton Village and upon arrival, you can take lunch and receive a self-guided leaflet which shows you around the main above stairs rooms of the property that have been used in the show. You will also have a chance to explore the beautiful grounds of the property as well. The tour finishes at your hotel in central London.

Love time , learn so much during the trip and very pleasant! Only thing I did not enjoy too much is our bus driver , a bit none professional and using his mobile all the time during the work, feel it is bit dangerous!

It was amazing to see the locations of the Downtown Abbey series! The guide was very attentive and gave information throughout the tour. The transport left on time and everything went according to plan.
