From Ljubljana: Trip to Lake Bled and Bled Castle

1. From Ljubljana: Trip to Lake Bled and Bled Castle

Lake Bled is often mentioned as the pearl of the Slovenian Alpine region due to its emerald-green waters, picture-perfect postcard church on the island, medieval castle on the rocky cliff, and some of the highest peaks of the Slovenian Alps as the background. Take a short walk along the lakeshore as the beauty of the surrounding mountains reflects off the lake surface. No matter the season, you'll enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the lake and the fresh mountain air.  Perched atop a steep cliff more than 100 meters above the lake, Bled Castle is the iconic image of a medieval fortress, with towers, ramparts, moats and a terrace offering magnificent views. The castle houses a unique treasure - a reconstruction of Gutenberg's wooden printing press, on which the master printer will demonstrate old printing techniques using hand-made paper. Take the Pletna boat, a traditional boat known only to this region, to the tiny tear-shaped island on the lake. Upon returning from the island, stop at the local patisserie and taste Bled’s famous cream cake, kremšnita. In the last 60 years they have sold as many as 12 million of these cakes - they are definitely a can't-miss and a perfect way to top off your day.

From Ljubljana: Lipica and the Coastal City of Piran

5. From Ljubljana: Lipica and the Coastal City of Piran

Passing through a varied landscape, reach the sparkling Mediterranean. The gem of the Slovenian coast is the medieval Piran, tucked in between the sea and the mighty town walls. The central square boasts eminent historical palaces, the birth house of the maestro Tartini, his monument and his name. You will walk up to the imposing Church of St. George with its Venetian-like bell tower to admire the view over the wonderful mosaic of roofs, streets and squares with the stunning backdrop of the bay. Ljubljana: Postojna Cave and Predjama Castle

6. Ljubljana: Postojna Cave and Predjama Castle

Your tour will begin with Postojna Cave, one of the best-known caves in the world. It is also the greatest tourist attraction in Slovenia and one of the world’s largest karst monuments. This is the only place in the world where the underground landscape can be traversed on an electric train and where you can meet this underground kingdom’s most famous inhabitant, the proteus (olm), up close. A fantastic web of tunnels, passages, galleries and halls, astonishing diversity of karst features as well as easy access are certainly the main reasons for the popularity of the cave and a large number of visitors. From here the tour extends to the Predjama Castle which reigns over the surrounding area, not far from the Postojna Cave, in the idyllic village of Predjama. This picturesque, magnificent, defiant, mysterious and impregnable castle has been perched in the middle of a vertical 123-meter high cliff for more than 800 years. Its romantic appeal is further emphasized by the idyllic Lokva River, which disappears into the underground world deep below the castle. As the only preserved cave castle in Europe, the Predjama Castle offers a unique insight into the building techniques and resourcefulness of people in the Middle Ages, who were looking for and found a safe harbor for themselves right at the entrance of the cave. During a siege that took place in the 15th century, the castle provided a refuge for its best known and most notorious owner, Erazem of Predjama. The legend of the courageous robber baron Erazem, who remained undefeated until one of his servants betrayed him, is still in people’s minds, inspiring and alluring as ever. It was this safe abode of his which helped the brave knight resist the besiegers without much difficulty for more than a year.

Our guide Eva was awesome. She came on time, very friendly, knowledgeable about the whole Slovanian history. Started her explanation of Slovenian history as she drove us to the Vintgargorge where she helped us to get the tickets so we can beta the queue and be on time. Her explanations of the gorge were detailed and well understood. We then drove to Blad which was the main attraction with a detailed explanation of the lake. And in all, Eva was amazing and the best ever and definitely I would recommend my friends to book with her when they visit Ljudbliana.

Sightseeing by bike is always a nice change from getting to know a city. You can go by bike where you might not go and learn a lot about the city. Our bike guide was very open-minded and very nice. She showed and explained a lot to us and it was a relaxing 3 hours. The bikes were a mixture of city bike and Hollandrand, but they were completely sufficient for the city tour. Thanks very much!

Great trip, nice guide! We liked the tour and there were only three people in the car, thus we indeed liked it. Note that entrance fee is not included and it might be a bit expensive all in all over 120 euro.

awesome tour, the local guide brought us to gorgeous spots in Ljubljana that we wouldn't have discovered ourselves

Great experience! The guide was very kind and full of knowledge about the history of Slovenia and Bled.
