Full description
The day starts with pickup from your hotel and leaves the bright lights of the Las Vegas Strip behind. The first stop is the fascinating Hoover Dam, built in 1931. Marvel at this impressive feat of human engineering while learning about the speed of the people who built the structure in just 4 years. Continue the tour with an exciting drive along old Route 66, one of the most scenic drives in the Southwest. Arrive at Cool Springs Station, which inspired Pixar’s movie Cars, and admire the antiquated gas pumps that ooze old American charm. Head into the gift shop to browse the array of memorabilia before making your way up the Sitgreaves Pass to a makeshift cemetery. Along the way, stop at a scenic overlook where you can see 3 states. Later, visit the historic and mysterious town of Oatman, often referred to as a “living ghost town”. This Arizona town was established when gold was found in 1902 and took its name from Olive Oatman, a young girl who was captured by Yavapai Native Americans and forced to work as a slave before being rescued and adopted by the Mojave Native Americans. Browse the quaint shops and feed the many wild donkeys that wander the streets, left behind by the miners of years gone by. At the end of an unforgettable day, begin the return journey to Las Vegas by way of the Mojave Desert on the Veterans Memorial Highway. Soak up stunning views of the beautiful desert landscape and let your imagination take you back in time to the days of the Wild West.
