After having been collected from your accommodation, you will begin your day out on the water to watch whales in their natural sanctuary.  You will visit a beautiful natural area aboard a certified boat out in the privileged waters of Samaná and Miches Bay. The whale watching sanctuary in Samana Bay is the winter home of a sea giant, an acrobat of the sea: the humpback whale. From January to March, these waters are their stage and refuge as they come here to give birth to their young or to find a partner to perpetuate their species through further generations. Expert guides will take you to enjoy this natural wonder aboard boats that are specially designed for this activity. As you observe these enormous and majestic beings (which can reach 53 feet in length and 40 tons in weight), you will learn more about their biology, ecology and behavior.

We will meet you at your Hotel or place in bayahibe around 5:30 AM (the exact meeting point and other details are provided in the confirmation message). We will drive to Sabana de la mar port. First we go to observe the whales in their own habitat. After observation, we will go for a typical dominican lunch to Cayo Levantado Island. After lunch you will have free time to enjoy the beach, walk around the island, playing volleyball or just relaxing in the shadow. Around 4:30 PM we will return back to Sabana de la mar community where the experience finish and we will take you back to Bayahibe. Other things to note This is an experience to see close the whales. Departing from your Hotels through the Eastern Plain, between green landscapes with large pastures and small towns, between the Mountains and the Sea, to live this unforgettable Adventure. Our first stop is at Las Cañitas Dock to board the boat that will take us to the Humpback Whale Sanctuary, on a sea tour of around two and a half hours. Once the sighting is over, we will head to Cayo Levantado or Isla Bacardi to enjoy a delicious typical buffet-style lunch in front of the sea. After lunch, the afternoon is to enjoy a refreshing swim in the crystalline waters of white sand or simply lie down under the shade of the Coconut Trees, enjoying a good Cuba-Libre. At the end of the beach time in Cayo Levantado, we board the ship again, cross the Bay of Samana back to Las Cañitas Pier, and take the bus to return to the hotels in Bávaro and Bayahibe.

This tour is only available from the period between January 20 until March 30 each year. Until recently, it was believed that only 85% of the Atlantic humpback whales were born in Dominican waters and returned annually for mating and breeding. But a recent study revealed that all North Atlantic populations come to breed in these waters. On-board a specialized boat, you will enjoy the following: impressive mating acrobatics, romantic male chants and jumps of the consorts. Samaná is considered one of the best places in the world for the sighting of humpback whales. Come for a day and discover this enormous mammal and the incredible story of its migration in Samana Bay. The departure will be around 7:30 am to arrive at the Miches pier around 9:15 am. Once at the piers, breakfast will be served. The Whale Watching will be operated on a comfortable motorized catamaran and lasts 2h00 and 3h30.
