Full description
You will be welcomed by your professional licensed local tour guide who will be with you the entire day and tell you about the ruins. Drive in a brand new luxury Mercedes van with separate driver. Have a scenic drive of around 20 minutes to the pilgrimage House of the Virgin Mary, where the mother of Jesus Christ spent her final years. Pope Paul VI visited the shrine in 1967, and 'unofficially' confirmed its authenticity. Pope John Paul II also visited the shrine in 1979 and then Pope Benedict XVI visited the shrine in 2006. While visiting, each pope presented gifts for the shrine which you will be able to see during your visit. Your next stop will be the UNESCO listed ancient city of Ephesus, one of the best well-kept ancient Greco-Roman cities in the world with its famous odeon where music concerts were organized and Domitian Temple, one of the first temples dedicated to a human. See Celcus Library, which was the third largest library in the ancient times. Then visit one of the biggest amphitheaters in the world with a capacity for 24000 and where St. Paul preached to Ephesians. View Marble Street, the Roman baths, fountains, temples, Agora; Love House; public toilets, terrace houses (optional) famed with gorgeous mosaics and wall paintings. Afterwards, take a short drive to the Temple of Artemis, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, and see Saint John Basilica from a distance. It is believed that the Evangelist St. John spent his last years in the region around Ephesus and is buried in the southern slope of Ayosolug Hill. The tomb of St. John was under the central dome of the basilica. Just ask your guide if you would like to see interior of the basilica.
