Full description
The tour of the Museum, included on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1978, comprises both parts of the former concentration camp – Auschwitz I and Auschwitz II-Birkenau – and a documentary film presenting the first moments after the camp was liberated. The Auschwitz camp has become a symbol of terror, genocide, and the Holocaust. It was established by the Nazis in 1940 in the suburbs of the city of Auschwitz, which was integrated into the Third Reich. In 1942 it became one of the centers for Endlösung der Judenfrage (the final solution of the Jewish issue) – the Nazi plan to murder the Jews living in the territories occupied by the Third Reich. The Auschwitz camp, until the end of its existence, was first and foremost a place of extermination. It has become a world-famous symbol of the Nazi genocide, in particular the destruction of the Jews. Today it serves as a memorial to those who lost their lives here, with hundreds of people visiting daily to pay their respects.

We booked last minute for 6 and the tour guides were very flexible with us. Our hotel was closer to Auschwitz and they did not make us drive all the way to Krakow. Instead we were able to meet them at the museum. We are so glad we booked a tour with Cracow Tours.

A thoughtful and well planned tour with an outstanding guide

Jacek of Cracow Tours is an outstanding guide and the tour was both thoughtful and well planned. I have no idea how the tour could be improved. I already knew most (but not all) of the facts, but seeing the site in person and experiencing it with others took my understanding and appreciation to the next level. Many thanks for a job well done. The pre- and post-tour arrangements were superb. We were promptly contacted by staff to confirm our pickup point shortly after we booked. We returned after dark (about 9 pm) so Jacek of Cracow Tours arranged for a taxi to take us back to our hotel. Five stars for Cracow Tours!

Tour excellent. Guides excellent, but we weren't told beforehand that we should bring food and a drink. We had no time to buy these, as we would never keep a tour bus waiting, although some people were rude and did this. Also, we didn't know in advance about the bag restrictions. The bag rule is fair enough, but it would have helped if we had known in advance. Please let all other people know these details in the future. We had breakfast at 0700 and couldn't eat or drink again until 1530. Luckily, we have no health issues, bu many people do have.
