Being famous stonemasons, shipbuilders and seafarers, the people of Korčula left their marks all over the world, but saved their best works for their hometown. Continue to Korčula, a medieval fortified town on the oval peninsula that stretches deep into the Peljesac Channel. The town has two ancient entrances - Sea Gate, and Land Gate - and was built in the shape of a fish bone to reduce the impact of wind and sun. Wander the narrow streets, exploring sights such as Pjaceta Square, the Cathedral of St. Mark, and the Venetian Arsenal with its restored Tower Rampada. According to legend, Korčula is the birth place of Marco Polo, and you can also visit the house where he is thought to have been born.
