6. From Khasab: Half-Day Mountain Safari to Jabel Harim

Jebel Harim, which translates to "the mountain of women," is the highest peak in Musandam. The summit is home to a radar station, which monitors shipping way below in the Straits of Hormuz, and provides superb panoramic views back to Khasab and onwards toward Dibba. Many of rocks are studded with perserved fossils, offering a remarkable glimpse into ancient submarine creatures, including mollusks, fish, clams, and numerous trilobites. Drive up into the mountains from Khasab, making stops at viewpoints along the way. The village of Sayah, a picturesque hamlet still occupied by desert-dwelling Bedouin people, will be paid a visit as well. The settlement is famous for its ancient petrographs, 3,000-year-old paintings splattered on the rock face. En route, pass by a remarkable fossil wall, formed out of what was originally a chunk of sea bedrock and covered in a dense layer of fossilized impressions, among which the outlines of crabs, starfish, and shells can be clearly made out. Later on, drive up near the summit of Jebel Harim. Of course, the photo opportunities from these heights are spectacular; in particular the stunning Khawr Najid viewpoint provides an unmatched vista over the Indian Ocean.

What people are saying about Khasab

Outstanding trip. Easy, comfortable shuttle bus ride from our doorstep in Dubai to the boat Khasab. Friendly, attentive crew provided plentiful cold drinks, buffet lunch, and fresh fruit and helped my elderly mother so that she could lay down on the floor pillows and swim with everyone else (she uses a wheelchair). Would definitely book this trip again.

The gentleman who picked us up, the dhow captain and his crew, we're all very pleasant, friendly and eager to help, yet remain a comfortable distance so that they don't over-whelme the guests - we had a very relaxing and refreshing trip

The boat tour and jeep tour were well organized. The boat crew and the jeep tour guide did an excellent job. The lunch in the restaurant was also excellent. This combination tour can be recommended without hesitation

No muss and no fuss. Pleasant day on the water. Great crew. Good lunch. Only suggestion would be to have more diet drinks on board other than water.

Nice trip, nice tour guide. He even caught a squid and grilled it for us on the boat!
