We (3 of us) showed up at the meeting place and time and no one else showed up. I asked another tour guide and he didn't know anything about my tour. He then came back over to us and took a picture of my confirmation and sent it to someone. Being out of the country it cost me to call the tour place but I did and they said they had just received the info from the other tour guide but somehow my reservation got lost. They had asked if we could reschedule for the next day and they would pick us up at our hotel. We had both days planned out so I was so disappointed but glad that at least we could switch everything around and make it work. We had a good tour and everything turned out good. Our tour guide was very nice. I would recommend this tour because it is so interesting to see the wooden shoes being made and just the countryside and history of it all.
The tour started late but there were only 4 of us which was good. The driver/guide was knowledgeable and the places we visited were interesting. We were supposed to go to Edam but ended up at a Henri Willig cheese factory which seemed more like an attempt to sell souvenirs. Our tour finished 30 mins short of the schedule on the voucher and we could have used the time in Volendam. When we arrived at Volendam & Zaanse Schans we were left to wander by ourselves. In particular at Zaanse Schans I thought the guide should have come with us to the windmills and that entry into see one should have been included.
Karel is a wonderful guide, full of information about the land, history, sights, politics - anything we could think of to ask questions about. We have a much better sense of the Netherlands after this trip, and are so glad we went beyond Amsterdam in our sightseeing. Karel was flexible and adapted the tour to our interests. His enthusiasm for what we were seeing was infectious. He also went above and beyond, delivering a left-behind cellphone to the airport in time for our flight home.
Guide was helpful and informed. Asked us what we wanted to do. We got to ride through small rural roads instead of the big highways. We saw a working sawmill at the windmill site. Overall, it was a great experience.
Very good, however was disappointed that we weren't able to go in the windmills because we arrived there too late. As this was one of the highlights of the tour, the timing of this itinerary needs to be looked at.
