  • Budapest: Jewish Cuisine and Culture Walk

    1. Budapest: Jewish Cuisine and Culture Walk

These days the seventh district is one of Budapest’s hippest neighborhoods, known for its quirky bars, cool cafés, hidden art galleries, and cutting-edge design shops. Before World War Two it was one of Europe’s largest Jewish communities, and it remains the center of Jewish life in Hungary today. By the early 18th century the neighborhood had become a melting pot of religions and ethnicities. During the war Jews were herded into these streets, walls were put up, and a ghetto was created where the majority of Jews survived the war. This walking tour focuses on the area’s history and culture, with a special emphasis on exploring and tasting Jewish-Hungarian cuisine in several styles. We will discuss the neighborhood’s past, including its more recent past during which many historic buildings were demolished, altering the fabric of the neighborhood. You will see the neighborhood’s four syn...

What people are saying about Jewish Quarter, Budapest

5 star tour by a 5 star guide

We met our guide, Zsuzsa, as arranged and after a brief chat about what we wanted from the day we set off. She brought us on a walking tour of Budapest all the while pointing out subjects to photograph. She quickly came to terms with our standard and pitched the photography at our level. She also kept the "techie" stuff to a minimum, while showing us what we need to check before taking a photo. She was very knowledgable on the history of Budapest and Hungary but didn't overwhelm us with facts. We covered all the main sights of Pest and across the river towards Buda. After every photo stop Zsuzsa would advise us on how we could improve the shot and we had a chance to correct mistakes. We finished by having a drink (included in the price) in one of Budapest's "Ruin" Bars, where Zsuzsa went back over what she had shown us. If you are interested in a tour of Budapest while at the same time learning what all those settings on your camera are for book this tour. Great tour - great guide.

Excellent, friendly and professional

My partner and I were very impressed with our guide. She was friendly, approachable and patient. Both of us are beginner photographers and wanted to explore the city at the same time so the tour was perfect for what we wanted. We were very comfortable with our guide who understood our needs and also spoke good English so communication was easy.

Night photography

Absolutely perfect. Everything I wanted and great company.
