Riviera Maya: Puerto Morelos 4-Hour Bird Watching Tour

1. Riviera Maya: Puerto Morelos 4-Hour Bird Watching Tour

Enjoy an amazing bird watching experience in the Mayan jungle, and observe a wide variety of bird species at the Botanical Gardens of Puerto Morelos. Following a pick-up from your hotel in Cancun or Playa del Carmen at 06:00 (07:00 for hotels in Tulum), transfer by air-conditioned vehicle to Puerto Morelos to observe unique birds on a hike through the jungle. Certified naturalist guides will provide interesting information about the Yucatan Peninsula's different bird species, as well as the area's ecosystems along the way. Migratory birds can be found in Mexico twice a year. As they escape the cold winters of the north, they cross the Gulf of Mexico on a journey of some 800-1,000 kilometers. The Yucatan Peninsula is the first stop on their journey to Central America, providing a unique opportunity to see them at rest in and around Puerto Morelos. A portion of the profits from this tour is donated to projects that protect the Mayan culture, and promote sustainable and responsible eco tourism.

Great tour!

This was our first time birding in the Yucatan. It was a great birding trip. My wife and I recorded 30 lifetime sightings, saw two species of toucan, and generally had a great experience. We were picked up at the perfect time from our hotel to arrive on site minutes before sunrise, and right from the site our guide Eduardo was making calls and we had 10 species recorded within 10 minutes. We started in a rural Mexican community that was part of an old Chewing Gum tree farm. There were plenty of fruit and berry eating species and this is where we saw our two species of Toucan. After this, we went to a protected 400 kilometer plot that used to be a corn field that is being repopulated with red cedar. All of the trees were young and this allowed for great visibility. We saw two ant migrations and tons of excited insect eating species. In total we saw 42 species and again most were new to my wife and I. Highly recommended! Thank you again Eduardo for a great trip.

This was the absolute best tour if you are interested in birds at all. My husband’s hobby is bird photography and this was probably his favorite part of our honeymoon. The driver, Axel, and the guide, Lope, were professional and very friendly! We ended up seeing 52 different bird species in the morning and were provided a delicious homemade breakfast. If we were back in the Cancún area I am sure we would do the tour again!

José Gill an excellent guide and birder. It’s a long trek but at a good pace. About 45 species seen. Highlight seeing a red capped manakin. Take lots of water. Mosquitoes are plentiful!

Lugo was extremely knowledgeable and determined for us to see as many local birds as possible. Noe was an excellent driver and took really good care of us.

Excellent service from start to finish.

Antonio was our guide and was extremely knowledgeable. He managed to find 40 bird species for us. Highly would recommend this trip.
