Quando pensi all'Egitto, cosa ti viene in mente per primo? È difficile immaginare altro se non la stupefacente magnificenza delle Piramidi di Giza e della monumentale Grande Sfinge di Giza. Queste meraviglie archeologiche si trovano nel complesso piramidale di Giza, noto anche come Necropoli di Giza o Altopiano di Giza, a circa 13 km a sud-ovest del Cairo. Inserite nella Lista del Patrimonio Mondiale dell'UNESCO dal 1979, le Piramidi di Giza e la Grande Sfinge attirano regolarmente milioni di turisti curiosi da tutto il mondo.
Le Piramidi di Giza in Egitto sono composte da tre imponenti piramidi: la Piramide di Menkaure, la Piramide di Khafre e la Piramide di Khufu, quest'ultima comunemente chiamata anche Grande Piramide di Giza per la sua immensa altezza. Tutte furono costruite minuziosamente durante la quarta dinastia dell'antico Egitto per i faraoni in carica all'epoca, da cui i loro nomi. Nessuno sa con certezza come furono costruite, ma una cosa è certa: le Piramidi di Giza continuano a conservare fedelmente l'essenza genuina dell'Egitto.
Un velo di mistero avvolge anche l'imponente Grande Sfinge di Giza, che si erge a guardia delle tombe sul lato orientale del complesso piramidale di Giza. La famosissima statua in pietra calcarea di una sfinge supina è una delle sculture più antiche, più grandi e più riconoscibili al mondo. Molti ritengono che la testa della scultura sia modellata sul faraone egiziano Khafre, anche se il naso è stato successivamente distrutto per motivi sconosciuti. Tuttavia, la Grande Sfinge rimane un magnifico emblema dell'Egitto.

“Communication was an issue, we were told we would be collected at 3.30am, so went to reception for this time and turn waited and waited. Eventually the reception team rang the number we had,to be told our pick up had been moved to 5.30am! We weren't informed of this. There was also an issue with our guide during the experience, so although I would recommend for tgd sheer experience of seeing the pyramids, but there are other issues with the trip.”
