Full description
Journey to the “City of Pearls” with a day tour to Hyderabad. This relatively new city by Indian standards (less than 500 years old) is brimming with culture and sights you don’t want to miss. Take a gander back in time as your professional English-speaking tour guide brings you to Charminar, a majestic monument with 4 gorgeously carved spires in the heart Hyderabad’s Old City. Built in 1591 by Mohammad Quil Qutub Shah, this towering architectural achievement was built to commemorate the eradication of the plague from Hyderabad. Continue on to visit the ruined city of Golkonda Fort built in the 13th century. The remains of the city will leave you breathless. Next see the Mecca Masjid, one of the oldest mosques in Hyderabad. The bricks are made from soil from the city of Mecca, making it even more important. You can also see Hussain Sagar, an awesome manmade lake in the city. The lake, constructed in 1562 by Hazrat Hussain Shah Wali, has a large stone Buddha in the middle that was built in 1992. Also known as “Tank Bund”, the lake connects the sister cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. Hyderabad is not only the capital of the South Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, it is also the most populous. On your tour you will have seen the ancient parts of the city, but today it is actually much more modern. Hyderabad is a major hub for the information technology industry in India, as well as the biotechnology and pharmaceutical capital of India. Don’t miss this exciting look at a modern old city!

We 5oroughly enjoyed our tour in Hyderabad. Samson was an exceptional tour guide. He was very knowledgeable about the history of the places we visited, and made it an incredible cultural experience. We visited Golconda Fort where we climbed several hundred years of history and visited the camel stables not normally on a general tour. We then visited the Qutub tombs, followed by a visit to a bakery next to Charminar that had the freshest, flakiest cookies I’ve ever eaten coupled with a cup of Masala Chai. Sam and our driver Sadam then took us pearl shopping and helped me negotiate a very reasonable purchase. While walking along the streets next to Charminar, we passed the Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand. Thanks to Sam and Saddam for a lovely visit to Hyderabad.

We hit up 4 spots: Golkonda Fort, Qutab Shahi Tombs, Chowmahalla Palace, and Charminar. He also had us have lunch at Paradise for the best of the cities biriyani (the mutton is far superior to the chicken). Finally, he took us by a few local shops towards the end in case we wanted to buy anything. Our guide was extremely professional and well experienced (he's been doing this since 2004 and grew up in Hyderabad). He knew a lot about the history of the city as well as the specific areas we came to see. He also spoke English very well. The one thing I'll note is that this guide is actually a freelancer and doesn't directly work for any touring company, so can't say if he's a good representation of whomever you end up with. The only reason why I put 4 stars is because of how expensive this tour is, especially considering how little the actual guide and the driver end up getting paid.

This ended up being a very good tour. The driver was excellent and the Innova was more than adequate. Mohan was my guide and did a very good job. There is quite a bit of walking and stairs involved to do the Fort so be sure and let them know if you're not up for hundreds of steps.
