This nature lover’s day trip begins with pickup from Hobart hotel. Then, journey through the picturesque Derwent Valley. Drive past Australia's oldest operating pub. Continue on to Mt. Field National Park, where Russell Falls is a must-see. Stroll underneath enormous fern forests and some of the world’s tallest trees to the waterfall. Next, follow the freshwater back to New Norfolk, where your guide will explain its interesting history.   Stretch and grab a bite to eat before the next stop. The Bonorong Night Tour is a group feeding tour with a guide just for your group. Group sizes are kept small to ensure every participant has plenty of opportunity to interact with the critters. You will enter the animals’ world and experience hand-feeding weird and wonderful creatures like Eastern quolls, tawny frogmouths and sugar gliders. You will also be able to help your guide feed the Tassie devils their dinner! In fact, you are going to help feed almost all of the animals in the sanctuary. First it’s dinner time for the daylight dwellers and then the nocturnal animals get their breakfast. A special highlight is meeting the mob of friendly Forester kangaroos. You are also going to meet some incredible survivors as many of the animals are recovering from injury or are orphans. This is a great introduction tour to Tasmania and leaves guests wanting to explore more of this beautiful island. The tour focuses on Tasmanian wilderness, history, nature, and local produce. Guests are picked up from the cruise ship terminal and departing times will depend on each cruise ship. Guests are contacted prior to the trip with information regarding pick up times and locations. Trips can be shortened if cruise ships times are delayed or departure times brought forward. Your guide starts the tour by briefing you on Tasmanian history before driving through Hobart's city streets, stopping at the top of Mt. Wellington and by the Cascade Brewery (Drive by or stop subject to availability). The next stop is at Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary, where kangaroos can be hand fed and Tasmanian Devils adored. Guests not wanting to visit the Sanctuary can be dropped at Richmond and have more time exploring the quaint 19th Century streets (guests stopping at Bonorong will be taken to Richmond after visiting the wildlife). You can choose to be dropped back at the cruise ship terminal or at Salamanca (10 minute walk to terminal) to explore more of Hobart.

Whilst the streets are quiet enjoy a city highlights tour en route to Hobart’s spectacular backdrop, Kunanyi (Mt. Wellington). Take in the famous pristine Tasmanian air as you drive up the 1272 meters to the pinnacle where you will be greeted by the very best view of Hobart and surroundings. After you take that perfect Instagram worthy selfie, you will have, no doubt, worked up a hunger! It is now time for Salamanca Market. This world class market offers the best of Tassie culture - art, produce, buskers, souvenirs, beverages and much more.  After 90 minutes of exploring the markets (Saturdays only), enjoy a quick stop and a delicious free cheese sampling at the award-winning Wicked Cheese. Explore their large range of local homemade products and witness some behind the scenes cheese making. We will then make our way to Richmond, an iconic township rich in convict history, sandstone and colonial buildings and home to Australia’s oldest bridge and catholic church. We then make our way down to Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary where you can hand feed kangaroos and get up close and personal with all the unique Tasmanian Wildlife including the famous Tasmanian Devil. This is an absolute highlight, even for a local!

: Mount Field is one of Tasmania’s oldest National Parks, and surely the prettiest. Only 1.5 hours from Hobart, this natural wonderland features lush temperate rainforest, moody alpine moorland and cascading waterfalls. It’s a place of serenity and great short walks – and there are plenty on the agenda. The Three Falls Circuit takes us to iconic Russell Falls, where water pours over rock in three perfect tiers. We push on through dappled light and ferns glades to reach the peaceful Horseshoe Falls, before joining the Tall Trees Trail where towering Swamp Gums stretch over 80 metres into the sky. From here our keen walkers can continue to Lady Barron Falls to complete the loop. Next up is Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary where you’ll meet all kinds of native wildlife. Learn about Tasmania’s rare and precious fauna during an informative wildlife tour conducted by the expert staff at Bonorong. Our final stop is the summit of kunyani/Mount Wellington, standing proud behind Hobart at 1271 metres above sea level. If your eyes aren’t watering from the icy air, they will be from the sweeping views. See the entire city, surrounding mountains and Derwent river system sparkling at your feet.

This trip is a great way to see rural areas outside Hobart. Peter, our guide, provided interesting information on Tasmania, the people, the history and farming carried on in the area.
