Full description
Depart Hobart at 07:30 on a full-day tour exploring Tasmania’s ruthless convict past, and experience the rugged landscapes of the Tasman Peninsula along the way. Start with a visit to the well-preserved colonial village of Richmond, where sights include Australia's oldest bridge still in use. Then, head south to the Tasman Peninsula and enter the Tasman National Park for some amazing views of the coastline and sea. Upon arrival at the Port Arthur Historic Site, learn the story of the convict settlement and the chilling realities of life as a prisoner amid the preserved jail ruins on a guided tour. Hear more about the penal colony's terrible past. Take a cruise of the harbor to see the site from a different perspective, and get a look at the Isle of the Dead where those who died at the prison were laid to rest in mass graves. Return to Hobart, and benefit from the opportunity to stop by the remarkable geological formations of the Tasman Arch, Devil's Kitchen and Blow Hole. Get dropped off in Hobart at approximately 17:30 at the end of the tour services.

I was fortunate to have had excellent weather, clear blue skies in the three days before Easter. Maps and sign posting really helped getting around. It was wonderful particularly as I’ve always wanted to see Port Arthur, and Tasmania as it was the only state I hadn’t seen in my 50 odd years in the wonderful country.

An amazing experience! Loved this from start to finish. If you love history then you'll love this tour. Loved being able to stop off at many different incredible lookouts and sights on the way to Port Arthur and enjoy all of them. A must do and would definitely do it again!

Pleasant day out!

We visited quite a few places on our way to Port Arthur, and although these were interesting, we didn't arrive there till 11:30. This is an amazing site, ticket includes walking tour, (EXCELLENT), and a cruise around the bay, which was pleasant. (Perhaps I should have missed it and continued to look at the buildings!) We had to leave at 14:30 to continue to other sites and visits. The Port Arthur site offers everyone a 2 day pass, because there is so much to see. This trip would be better spending as much of the day as possible there, without anything else. If you can, - go under your own steam and spend all your day wandering around this amazing sight. Our guide (Matt) was good - the itinerary was not his fault, and it didn't stop us having a really good day out. There is a shuttle bus available on site, which offers movement around the site if you find the walks difficult. Other sites we visited were interesting, but (in my opinion), should be saved for other trips.
