On this half-day tour you'll relive scenes from one of the most popular movies of all time. Visit the locations used during the filming of The Sound of Music in Salzburg and its surrounding countryside. During the tour, you’ll also hear songs from the original soundtrack. Let your guide show you the architectural and historical landmarks of the city and the picturesque Lake District. See Leopoldskron Palace, a place whose exterior was used as the Trapp family home and where the children were seen boating on the lake and jumping into the water. Maria was a novice at Nonnberg Abbey, the oldest convent in German-speaking Europe, and your next stop. The St. Gilgen and Lake Wolfgang scenes shown at the beginning of the movie were actually filmed at Lake Fuschl, on the way to St. Gilgen, which you'll also see today. The wedding scene was filmed at Mondsee Cathedral, a buttery yellow-and-white edifice where you'll stop on the tour. Maria, led by Liesl, walked down the aisle to meet the baron in front of the stairs of the main altar. After dropping you off in Salzburg at the end of the tour you can visit Mirabell Gardens, located just opposite the tour terminal. Admire alpine wonders along the way and have free time to explore Salzburg at your own pace.  Hop aboard a comfortable and climate controlled bus at a centrally-located meeting point in Munich. Relax on the drive and spy the enchanting Chiemsee, also called the "Bavarian Sea," as it is the largest lake in Bavaria. Arrive in Salzburg, the city of Mozart and have around 2.5 hours to see the city's impressive buildings, take in the vistas, and wander through the Baroque Old Town. Have time to take in sights like the Hohensalzburg fortress and the birthplace of Mozart.  Spend your free time checking out the cathedral, Hellbrunn Palace, and the fountains. Take a stroll through the Old Town to uncover boutique shops and eateries offering culinary delicacies. Get back on the bus and, in the summer (from April until November), travel thorughthe Salzkammergut to the Wolfgangsee. Purchase a boat ride to St. Wolfgang, the Hotel zum Weißen Rössl, and see the pilgrimage church.  Stop at the Mondsee, a location for the film "The Trapp Family." In the winter (from November to April), instead of the visit to St. Wolfgang you'll get to enjoy more time in Salzburg. During December enjoy the colors and aromas of Christkindlmarket Christmas market. Return to your meeting point in Munich by bus at the end of your tour.

6. The Hills Are Alive Private "Do-Re-Mi" Tour

On this excursion you will explore Salzburg and its beautiful surroundings on the traces of the world-famous musical “The Sound of Music”. Start your day with a walk through the Mirabell gardens, famous across the world for the Do-Re-Mi scenes filmed here. See the Pegasus fountain, dwarf garden as well as statues from Roman and Greek mythology and stunning, formal patterned flower beds. Drive up to one of the most beautiful viewpoints of the city, immortalised in Do-Re-Mi, with a fantastic view over the entire city of Salzburg and its millennium fortress. Back in your luxury minivan have a photo stop near Maria’s Abbey (Nonnberg Abbey) on your way to Leopoldskron Palace (boat scene and pink lemonade at the terrace). After a short stop at Leopoldskron drive on to the palace of Hellbrunn where you have the chance to visit the original gazebo and gardens. Then, leave the city driving south into the stunning Bavarian mountains where they filmed the opening scene. Now is your chance to spin in a field in the original area from the opening scene of The Hills are Alive. Journey off the beaten track down a scenic country road along the river Salzach and through the narrow gorges of the Lueg pass to Werfen where you will head to the top of the Sound of Music trail, the picnic spot from the movie. Enjoy a short rest here and its magnificent panorama view.  The final part of the tour takes you through the Austrian lake district via the scenic roads, where parts of the opening scene where filmed, and on to the “Sound of Music” wedding cathedral in Mondsee where the romantic wedding scene was filmed.

This tour combines the original locations from the musical "The Sound of Music" with the historical "Eagle's Nest". Your tour starts with a tour of the city including the Palaces Leopoldskron (von Trapp Family House) and Hellbrunn (Sound of Music Pavilion). Hellbrunn Palace is on the way to the Eagle's Nest which will be next. Passing the border to Germany the journey continues to the Sound of Music Meadow (The Hills are alive). Now is your chance to spin in the field, reenacting the opening scene. Head to the "Obersalzberg" which is located at 3000 ft. elevation right below the Eagle's Nest. Access the Eagle's Nest with special busses and an elevator. Admire the scenic view of the Bavarian Mountains, the King's Lake, and the surrounding area of Salzburg. Returning from the Eagle's Nest, continue to the second highlight of our tour, the Salzburg Lake District. Travel through the Wies Valley and further on to Fuschl and St. Gilgen. Take a stunning photo of the castle of Fuschl with emerald Lake Fuschl in the background. The next highlight is Lake Wolfgang and the village St. Gilgen, the scenery of the area was shown at the beginning of "The Sound of Music." Enjoy a view from the "Mozart View Point" to Lake Wolfgang and the "Schafberg" Mountain. Relax and enjoy the countryside on the drive from St. Gilgen to the lake "Mondsee" and further on to the town of Mondsee with the "Sound of Music Wedding Church", from where you make your way back to Salzburg. Your tour ends with a drop-off at your Salzburg hotel or any other location within the city.

This tour was one of the most magical experiences of my life and I can't recommend it enough. Our guide April and the driver Ivo were incredible hosts, so enthusiastic, funny, and very knowledgeable. The sights are amazing and singing along with everyone was so much fun. Definitely one of my favorite things. :)
