From Frankfurt: Heidelberg & Rothenburg Full-Day Tour

1. From Frankfurt: Heidelberg & Rothenburg Full-Day Tour

Two of southern Germany's most charming communities offer a look at the country's medieval charm. You'll see the romantic city of Heidelberg and the historic town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber. Your journey begins with a morning tour to Heidelberg. Tour the famous Heidelberg Castle for a look at the long courtyard, the mighty terrace, and one of the largest wine barrels in the world, and then take a walk in the city's medieval center to marvel at the Old Bridge, Karl's Gate, the Church of the Holy Spirit, and the House of the Knights, as well as the oldest university in Germany. Next, follow the Romantic Road into the uplands of Bavaria for a visit to Rothenburg ob der Tauber, the best-preserved medieval town in Germany. High above the Tauber River valley, the picturesque old lanes and the castle garden give you a look at the elegance of another era. See the wood-carved altar of St. Jakobs Church and marvel at half-timbered houses, the city gates, and the mighty Renaissance Town Hall. In the afternoon, take some leisure time to explore the town on your own. Look for the local delicacy called a "Schneeball," a fried dough ball with many different toppings before you meet your group for your journey back to Frankfurt.

Culinary Tour of Heidelberg

4. Culinary Tour of Heidelberg

Start your culinary experience at Heidelberg's romantic marketplace. Choose between different topics: “Towers, Moats and Massacres” (... tour with a palace guard), “Hangmen, Witches, Prostitutes” (crimes from the Middle Ages) or “Werewolves , Revenants and Vampires” (scary stories and legends with a night guard).  To give you the opportunity to get to know typical restaurants of Heidelberg and different local meals on a single evening, the dinner courses are served in different locations of Heidelberg's old town. "Meals have become means of government and the fate of nations has often been sealed at a banquet" (Brillat-Savarin 1825). As this understanding is not entirely new, you will enjoy a "moved" dinner that delights spirit and palate alike. The guided walk is a pub walk. What people are saying about Heidelberg

We had a wonderful tour guide, Willi, who showed us all the history of Heidelberg Castle and the town. He was very knowledgeable and we didn't miss a thing. Willi also had a great sense of humor! The Rhine River Tour was good until the sun set and then it was harder to see the castles along the river but it was mid-October and the sun set earlier. But, overall a great tour!

Mr Tony and especially Marcella were fantastic.

It was a wonderful day. Our guide moved seemlessly between languages. She was considerate and knowledgeable. The driver was steady and professional. The scenery speaks for itself. I'd go again.

I highly recommend this tour. Worth every cent!

Our tour guide George went out of his way to make) this a memorable experience. He kept surprising us with hidden treasures. Be sure to do this tour. You won’t regret it

Great tour with an even better tour guide. Saw some awesome places and learned a ton while doing it. Definitely recommend.

Yes it was such a lovely trip and worth all the money.
