Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Hanoi – Sapa – Cat Cat village

(Meals: lunch, dinner) Depart Hanoi for Sapa early in the morning. Stop for short breaks in Phu Tho Province and Lao Cai city before arriving in Sapa town. Be greeted by a representative in Sapa and enjoy lunch with local Vietnamese dishes. In the afternoon, trek to Cat Cat village, the home of the Black H’Mong people. See the Cat Cat Waterfall and the hydrofoil constructed by the French during the 19th century. Visit a local H’Mong family and learn about their culture and customs. Then, trek back to Sapa for dinner. Spend the night in a hotel in Sapa.

Day 2: Sapa – Fansipan Peak – Hanoi

(Meals: breakfast, lunch) After breakfast, transfer to the cable car station. Your driver will help you buy your cable car ticket. Then, take the 20-minute cable car ride up Fansipan by yourself. Admire the spectacular scenery, visit the pagoda, and climb the 600 steps to the peak, known as the Roof of Indochina. Return to Sapa and have lunch at the hotel. Enjoy time to explore Sapa on your own before boarding the sleeper bus back to Hanoi.

Important information

Know before you go

  • Be sure to bring warm clothes, a scarf, and a hat as the weather in Sapa is pretty unpredictable. It is normally cold from September through March. Due to the altitude, it can be foggy from December through March
  • Trekking shoes, sunglasses, sun cream, and insect repellent are also recommended
  • Remember to bring any needed medication with you
  • You should bring cash in Vietnamese Dong because the banking system in Sapa sometimes does not function well; U.S. dollars, Euros, and Australian dollars are accepted in Sapa
  • There is no guide on the 2nd day, only a driver
  • The sleeper bus has berths for 1 person and separate cabins for 2 people

Well worth the money spent. We figured it would cost more to arrange our own transport, accommodation and cable car ride to Mount Fansipan, so decided to take up the package from GetYourGuide. While there was no accompanying guide throughout the journey, the coordinator was constantly in touch to check on us. Transfer from Hanoi to Sapa and vice versa - it was our first experience on the sleeper bus and the kids love it. Space might be a bit tight for plus-sized traveller, otherwise it was comfortable. Hotel in Sapa is located in a convenient location near the market/night market. The room was clean and spacious. All meals were included throughout our stay and they were delicious. A local guide escorted us into Cat Cat Village which is mostly paved and has many photo opportunities. It's many steps down and then up the other way. The frail and weak knees should think twice. While the trip up Mount Fansipan was not escorted, it was a breeze to navigate. Timing was adequate.

We opted for the 2d1n tour to sapa including cat cat village and fansipan peak. Cat cat village was amazing and so was fansipan except for the weather we got while up there. You spend 6-7hrs on the bus one way but it’s totally worth it. Because of the travel time I try and do the 2 nights 3 days if you can and there’s plenty to do while up there. Our tour guide and organiser were very helpful, harry came to the bus in hanoi to make sure we got on okay and that we were all ready to go which was nice.

Really fun and activity packed. The sleeper bus was relaxing. Our hotel Chapa Dew was only okay and food was ordinary but location was close to city center. Amazing experience to be surrounded by a sea of clouds. Local female Hmong Tourist guide was excellent and very accommodating. Speaks good English. This tour is worth it!
