Begin with a pickup from your central London hotel and a drive through London and out into the Oxfordshire countryside. Your first stop will be in Oxfordshire, where you will visit the villages that became the village of Downton. The day begins with pickup from your accommodation in London or Heathrow, then heads towards Windsor Castle where over 900-years of royal history awaits you. Windsor Castle is the oldest and largest continuously occupied castle in the world, and the official home of the current Queen, Elizabeth II. At the castle, enjoy the chance to explore the lavish state apartments, the Grand Reception Room, and the Royal Chapel of St George, which is the resting place of former Kings and Queens and also the setting for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s 2018 wedding. After your visit to Windsor Castle, begin the 90 to 120-minute journey to Southampton. This was the absolute best tour we did on our trip to London. Amber was a wonderful guide and kept the group informed and on time throughout the day. We saw many locations used in the filming of Downton Abbey; in addition to Highclere Castle which was the highlight of the day. There was some downtime at the castle where we enjoyed a snack and the gin cocktail bar. The bus ride was fun as well, with Amber involving the group in trivia challenges, etc. We highly recommend this tour.
