Full description

Experience Hamburg's Harbor by the evening light on a traditional barge. Take a romantic round-trip voyage through the Hamburg Harbor and enjoy a cozy atmosphere with the illuminated silhouette of the city as your backdrop. Travel through the historic Speicherstadt (depending on the tide) and along the impressive illuminated container terminals. Hear interesting stories of the harbor's history with live moderation from the captain, while relaxing with a drink. Alternatively, pick one of the special tours that take place only occasionally. Choose the special Queen Mary II cruise to accompany Queen Mary II at the Cruise Terminal and then follow her along the River Elbe.

During the boat ride, learn all about the ship from the professional guide. Or, celebrate the Anniversary of Hamburg Harbor onboard a traditional barge. Watch the opening parade to the festival unveil, as the weekend of celebrations will then follow.

Good value - best available; gave us very good views of warehouse district, Elbphilharmonie, city scape at sunset; also went down river to container port - the ships are even bigger close up. Boat was very crowded, with some people selfishly using 2 seats; I noticed that some people were turned away at departure - maybe they had not prebooked, or you need to turn up early to be sure. Seat quite uncomfortable. Talk in German only (but Googletranslate did it's best for us!)

It was an easy going, fun ride with lots of humor and interesting facts. A trip through the warehouse district was not planned here - but that was okay. The trip through the industrial port was really cool, with a view of the really big container ships. You rarely get that close to such ships. There is a very small minus point for the captain's statement that Fridays for Future wants to ban container ships. That is simply not true and belongs in the category of fake news compared to the climate demonstrations. Container ships are certainly not environmentally friendly, but they do transport goods that we wouldn't be able to move any other way. Hardly anyone seriously objects to that.

I can only assume the experience was excellent and will give the activity the benefit of the doubt. Unfortunately the ICE train from Amsterdam to Hamburg no longer stops at the station we needed to make one connection toward Hamburg. Instead of two trains, four trains were required, and should have been a 5 hour trip was 8.5, leaving us unable to make this event. Perhaps next time.
