Berlin: Kreuzberg Guided Walking Evening Tour

1. Berlin: Kreuzberg Guided Walking Evening Tour

Begin at the Kotti, which is a central place in Kreuzberg. In a short introduction, your guide will give you an overview of Kreuzberg’s history, life, and culture.  Kreuzberg was founded as a typical working-class neighborhood in the middle of the 19th century. People lived in huge building complexes, some in the fifth or sixth backyard. Discover these places at Oranienstraße and try to imagine life back in the days when it was almost impossible to breathe fresh air and when many people could not rent a whole flat or a room but instead slept on just a mattress. Most people in the working class had a radical left-wing view. So Kreuzberg turned into a critical neighborhood with constant demonstrations. Your guide will tell you about The Mother of all Street Fights. Visit SO36, a legendary music club, where anarchistic punk and new wave bands entertained audiences in the 1970’s and 1980’s and provoked the government and police. Discover Görli Park, the Central Park of Kreuzberg. Get to know Berlin’s Jack the Ripper. After two hours, see Kreuzberg from a different point of view. Say your goodbyes, then start your next adventure in Kreuzberg's famous nightlife, or if you prefer, to relax after this exploratory city tour.

Small Group Tour: "Wild Kreuzberg"

2. Small Group Tour: "Wild Kreuzberg"

Lose yourself in wild Kreuzberg on this walking tour. You will start at Kottbusser Tor, where everyday life meets Kreuzburg night culture. A Turkish market, Arabic restaurants and bistros, chic cafes alongside alternative clubs and bars line the square, which is divided down the middle by the famous overground rails of the U1 line. Walking past imposing houses from the beginning of the last century, and the Sozialpalast, you will reach the really happening Oranienstraße, the heart of the former SO36 postal district, as Berlin's punk district is still known. Here there are restaurants, bars and shops with typical Kreuzberg charm, the Berlin Home for the Blind, the Museum of Objects, Comic Shops and Boutiques. Over the Heinrich-Platz you will reach the Mariannenplatz, where the art-squat Bethanien, a former hospital, is to be found. Next-door in the Rauchhaus you will find more traces of the squatters' life of days gone by. Then walk to the Oberbaumbrücke, which symbolically links East and West Berlin.

Berlin's Alternative Side: The Urban Jungle Tour

3. Berlin's Alternative Side: The Urban Jungle Tour

Start your urban underground tour of Berlin at the Hackescher Markt at the heart of the local cafe scene and then head to a unique courtyard loved by contemporary artists. Hear how it has survived against the odds and get insights into the alternative messages of the art on display. Hear local stories about Berlin's neighborhoods as you continue to the Pink Man graffiti by the famous street artist, Blu. Learn about his protest against the “gentrification” of the town’s alternative side and other ethical projects he’s involved in.  Then, it's time to relax with a drink at a hip beer garden by the Urban Spree and experience how Berliners like to spend their evenings. Pass the East Side Gallery, where artists from around the world have left their mark on the remains of the Berlin Wall. Stop at the smallest cinema in town, popular for showing international movies and its 70's flair. End by the Boxhagener Platz and discover a great place to relax and experience some more urban vibes.
