Enjoy the views of the Hungarian countryside on a 30-kilometer drive that takes you from Budapest to the Royal Palace in Gödöllő. This was at one time the summer residence of Habsburg Emperor and Hungarian King Franz Joseph and his beautiful and charismatic wife, Sisi. On this half-day private tour you’ll have the opportunity to see the interior of the palace, and experience the opulence of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. You’ll also visit a traditional farm, where you’ll be welcomed with a pogácsa (scone) and pálinka (a special Hungarian spirit). After enjoying a traditional horse show, you’ll take a pleasant carriage ride through the woods.
Head out on the path of Queen Sissy, and stop at Godollo Royal Summer Castle for a private guided tour of the interior. This was the favorite countryside castle of royal family, nobles and aristocrats. Walk along the renovated castle with historic and original furnitures, and learn about the splendor of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. The palace became the symbol of independent Hungarian statehood, and, as a residential center it had a political significance of it own. It was Empress Elisabeth (1837-1898) who specially loved staying here, and the Hungarian personnel and neighborhood of the Palace always warmly welcomed her. Following her tragic death, a memorial park adjoining the upper garden was built. Visit the newly opened section and exhibition of the castle, the nice castle park and the surroundings. On the way back stop at Budapest City Park and walk the courtyards of Vajdahun...

it was an interesting tour, but the destination is maybe not that spectacular as compared to other things in Hungary. The horse show was also pleasant, but maybe not that spectacular. A fine tour, but not spectacular.
We enjoyed the loan of a wheelchair that allowed our elderly parent to visit too. I had to help the person controlling the tickets to scan my ticket-mobil, but it was with a smile and good will.
The collection looked very nice and was clearly exhibited. Only outside the castle there were many buildings that had fallen and were due for a restoration. That was very unfortunate.
Easy access from Budapest to Godollo (Metro + train). Too bad the stables and the theater are closed. Very nice site, only downside prohibited photos in the palace.
Beautiful castle. Lots of information about Sisi. Well settled. Top.
