Private Penang City Tour with Kek Lok Si Temple

2. Private Penang City Tour with Kek Lok Si Temple

Your tour begins with pickup from your hotel at Georgetown on time. Meet and greet your friendly driver at the hotel lobby and proceed for your tour. Your driver will pick you up from your respective hotel then you will head out to visit Wat Chayamangkalaram Temple, Dhammikarama Burmese Temple, and the streets of George Town - a UNESCO World Heritage Site. After that, you will visit Kek Lok Si Temple. Built in 1891 as a small shrine, it has since expanded to become one of the most majestic and largest temples in South-East Asia. Since its founding in 1930, the “Pagoda of Ten Thousand Buddhas” is considered one of Penang’s most beautiful architectural wonders as it is able to incorporate 3 cultures into one structure – with its Chinese octagonal base, Thai middle tier, and Burmese Crown. A 30.2m Guan Yin (Goddess of Mercy) bronze statue was erected in 2002 on the highest point of the temple. It can be reached via an Inclined lift at the middle. On the way, you will stop for some free sampling of Penang’s famous White Coffee/Tea at Coffee Tree.

The driver / guide was on time at the hotel, but before that, unlike on other tours, there had been no contact. Although the 11th time on Penang, we have gained a whole range of new impressions. Kek Lok Si was rather annoying, you run through too many souvenir shops, the drive through the old town with the many colonial buildings was very nice. We always had enough time for sightseeing, it also explained a lot.

You get to see most of the points of interest and would consider a must for first time visitors to Penang. Attractions in Penang are worth a trip.
