We really enjoyed our tour with Antonella. A sweet and very likeable person, she brought us to the places we wanted to see and more - interesting spots like the medieval gates and the lesser-known but extremely beautiful old churches. She provided a good feel for the local way of life and helped us with our questions on our train to Cinque Terre, good local food, safety issues, etc. She put together a great walking itinerary and helped us to learn about and fall in love with Genoa. With only a day and a half in Genoa, a guide like Antonella is a "must-have". We wouldn't have been able to see or learn as much about Genoa on our own. PS: The tour operator, lokafy.com, actually tried to a call me several times from NY to ensure I would be happy with what the guide would be providing. I am extremely impressed by their great level of service and strong professionalism. Will definitely be doing more tours with them and Get Your Guide in the future.
Eleonora is a wonderfully welcoming person who loves her city. We were located close to the area we would be seeing so she guided us walking to see the city center including a bit of the old town both from the inside of it and from the top. We got there through the panoramic elevator. We were staying for a few days so she told us how to get around the city and how to reach other interesting spots. She was so gracious and offered to help us if we had questions later. The buildings are incredible there's so much to see. Eleonora pointed out the "newer" buildings which had only been built in the 1700s. So much history to absorb can not be done in the brief time we were there.
We had only a few hours to explore Genoa, and our tour of the city with a local was such a great experience that we would recommend it to anyone visiting the city. Our tour guide, Pier Paolo, was not only a wealth of knowledge on the history and architecture of Genoa, but spoke perfect English and had a great sense of humor and perspective that added very valuable insights to our visit. I would definitely suggest adding this activity to your itinerary, and would also suggest directly requesting Pier Paolo as your tour guide. You will be glad that you did!
Pier Paolo met us at our hotel and asked what we were interested in seeing. We said local history, importance of Genoa, older parts of the city, and other interesting sights. Some of the highlights were Knight Templar church and hospital, Roman road and Roman gates, old part of the city, old buildings' architecture compared to new, former palaces of wealthy families, and much more.
It was a great tour full of interesting information of the history of Genova. Also the guide was very friendly and used to do this, perfect English and humor!
