Full description
Rabaçal is a nature reserve on the island of Madeira that was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999. It is an area of intense natural beauty, brimming with waterfalls and unique flora and plant life, all of which you can experience on this wonderful guided walk. The 25 Fountains Walk starts by heading down the biggest valley of Madeira towards the Rabaçal reserve. Along the way you will walk along two of the oldest Madeira levadas each boasting a remarkable evergreen landscape with beautiful waterfalls scattered throughout. The 25 fountains refer to the 25 natural springs you will discover on the walk. Each spring falls into a small crystal clear lake surrounded by dense vegetation. Once you arrive here you may never want to leave! In this paradise-like oasis you'll be immersed in beautiful surronds, listening to the murmuring sounds of the water and the quiet chanting of the birds. For nature lovers this walk is an invitation into a unique and awe-inspiring slice of heaven. Rabaçal is a paradise of waterfalls, lakes and enchanting fountains and there is no better way to experience it than on a guided walk.

The hike was absolutely great and is highly recommended! Our tour guide explained everything to us very well and we were able to collect a lot of information. Because the hike was guided, we could relax and enjoy nature and admire it. He showed us in detail the best photo spots and informed us about possible dangers. All in one, everything was great!

First things first: the tour is less of a hike than a demanding walk. Experienced hikers may be disappointed. On the other hand, the tour is of course also aimed at all age and endurance classes. We were also picked up even though we didn't have a hotel in Funchal which was a nice touch. The tour guide was very nice, tried very hard to use all four languages available and at the same time as much information as. possible to bring about the native flora and fauna to men and women. The eight hours of duration are largely taken up by the various translations. We would do the tour alone next time, but anyone who wants to use the ride or does not feel confident enough to walk alone is well served here.

The day before we were informed about the pick-up time, which was also met very well. We stopped shortly before the starting point to buy drinks and food and to go to a toilet. The hike itself is breathtakingly beautiful, since we were there in November did not see so many blooming flowers. Who likes to take photos has many motifs during the hike, unfortunately there is rarely time for it during the hike. Good endurance is also an advantage.
