This hike was amazing and definitely one of the highlights of my trip. The views are fantastic, we were lucky to get a clear day but was a bit hot hiking in the Madeira sun in the later part of the walk. The first part of the hike is not too bad, mostly down and flat sections with some steps. The second half of the walk is the most challenging and you do have to have a relatively good level of fitness for this section. There are metal steps going up and then a lot of other steps during the rest of the walk. It is challenging but absolutely worth it! If your looking at this hike then book it!

This hike is amazing! It has the most amazing views. The guide was very knowledgeable, explained everything in English, French and German and was concerned with our safety, giving warnings whenever it was necessary. As for difficulty: it is really doable if you're reasonably but not super fit (for example if you run 4-5km once per week). Mostly the climb is tiring, but the guide gives you breaks to rest a bit if you need it. But your legs will be sore the next few days!

The hike and surroundings today were incredible, Pico Arieiro is a must see, truly stunning to be above the clouds. It is a difficult walk but our guide made sure everyone went at their own pace and knew the next stop. Water and sunscreen are essential, we had a beautiful day and there was very little shade from the Madeiran sun on the mountain, including on the lunch break. There are loo breaks on the way but bring 50c coins to access the loo!
