Full description
On this tour, see the best views of the eastern side of Madeira, a unique experience passing by the non-touristic villages. Start with a visit to Machico, where Portuguese captains landed for the first time. Move on to Portela for an experience with the amazing countryside of Madeira, overlooking Eagle Rock (Penha D'Aguia), known as the human face. Enjoy the view over the rocks and the coast. Afterwards, continue to the sugar cane and rum factory in Porta da Cruz. Taste the local rums and learn about the local production of rum. Travel down the serpentine roads to the village of Santana to visit the traditional thatched houses, and enjoy a delicious lunch during your stay in Santana. In the afternoon, visit the 3rd highest peak of Madeira. At 1818 meters you will have a 360° view over the surroundings, passing by Ribeiro Frio Village.

Die Tour war wirklich individuell, da wir nur 3 Teilnehmer waren. Gerhard, unser Guide und unsere Mitfahrerin waren beide Toptypen. Das einzige Manko: warum man ausgerechnet zum essen den Touri Hotspot Santana auswählt erschließt uns nicht. Mal abgesehen davon, dass ich das falsche Gericht ausgewählt hatte, brauchen wir kein Menü. Stattdessen hätte es den wirklich tollen Tag komplett abgerundet, wenn die Wahl auf eine der vielen beschaulicheren Locations unterwegs gefallen wäre.

Our driver was extremely personable and responded to our individual wishes during the tour. He was able to tell us a lot about Madeira and the individual places, also about the history and the changes of the last decades. The off-road tour was incredibly fun! Our tour guide is an absolutely excellent driver: we always felt safe, no matter how narrow or muddy the road was, he mastered every obstacle with flying colors. We would highly recommend Green Devil for other travelers. Of course, the jeep wobbles a lot, so if you have back problems or are otherwise injured, you should avoid this tour. The jeep is also well filled with full people, but we had no problem with that.
