From there, you'll commence your tour with an air-conditioned minivan ride to the center of Portugal, 150 kilometers (90 miles) north of Lisbon, arriving at the region of Fátima. In 1917, a religious event changed the history of this location forever, when three little shepherds witnessed successive apparitions of Our Lady of Fatima (another name for the Virgin Mary), turning Fátima into the religious capital of Portugal, and one of the most important landmarks in the Marian worship, drawing pilgrims from all over the world. In Fátima, you’ll spend time exploring the religious site, visit the Chapel of Apparitions to see the stone pillar that marks the spot where Virgin Mary appeared, see the Shrine that is twice the size of St Peter's Square in the Vatican, the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary of Fátima, and absolve all the religious atmosphere and serenity that this whole location offers.  At the other end of Fatima’s Shire the Most Holy Trinity Church (Lesser Basilica, from 2007) is an amazing modern piece of architecture, without intermediate supports and with a total capacity of about 8,700 people. You then leave Fátima but before the tour ends you will be taken to a small local village 2 km away, where the three cousins originally came from. Here, you will get a real insight into their lives and costumes, and get a real context of this location. As the tour ends, get back in your vehicle and enjoy beautiful rural views until your tour ends at the departure point.
