Frascati Wine Road from Rome: Tasting & Lunch

1. Frascati Wine Road from Rome: Tasting & Lunch

Your guide will meet you as you arrive at Frascati train station. Once introductions are made, your local guide and sommelier will lead you on a walking tour of the shops and botteghe in Frascati, tasting local specialties all along the way including revered local delicacies such as roasted pork (porchetta), biscotti just out of the antique wood fired oven, and jug wine from the oldest bakery and tavern in town. Oldest meaning hundreds of years old yet still adhering to the age old traditions that render their products unlike any other. Be sure to leave plenty of room as the best is yet to come! Transportation will be provided to the Old Frascati Vineyard, a historic and renowned family-owned winery that has been producing wine in the region for seven generations. Explore the grounds together, wandering amongst hand-tended vines, then look inside the 'secret' underground laboratories used to hide persecuted families during world war 2 and used today to store wine. Follow with a guided tasting of each of the winery's products, including Frascati Superiore DOCG white wine, Vagnolo IGP red wine, and Frascati DOC White Wine. Savor the family's extra virgin olive oils paired with a selection of delicious breads. Bid farewell to the winery and swap vineyards for lunch in a hand-picked trattoria featuring the very best cured meats, cheeses, oils, breads, and pasta, and of course - more wine. After lunch and an espresso, wave goodbye to your hosts and head back to Rome.

The name of the area translates as Roman castles, but in reality it simply refers to a collection of wine-producing hills just southeast of Rome. The tour, priced for a group of up to 4 people, stops at Antico Casale, where you’ll meet the winemaker and then tour the vineyard and cellars. Learn how the wine is produced and maybe even sample a grape fresh off of the vine. After the winery tour, you’ll sit down for a tasting session and sample 3 varieties of wine that are produced here. The first wine you’ll taste is a white Frascati DOCG, which means the wine has its designation of origin guaranteed. The second is a red wine IGP, which has a protected geographical indication. And last but not least, taste a sweet Cannellino wine.  Each wine is paired with a delicious Italian specialty, such as Roman pizza or olive oil, as well as in-season fruits and vegetables from the garden.

The words FABULOUS & FANTASTIC are not even close to how myself & my friends can describe our experience at the St. Benedetta Vineyard.... The whole day was an amazing experience from the collection at our hotel by our fabulous driver Vladimir all the way through our tour of this beautiful & breath taking vineyard hosted by it's proud owners Alberto & his son Antonio.... Afterwards we sat in their beautiful gardens surrounded by the wonderful colours & scents from the flowers & herbs everywhere & sampled 4 absolutely DELICIOUS wines accompanied by some extremely tasty local foods. We cannot thank Antonio & Alberto enough for this wonderful experience & can assure them that we will certainly be back..... we would recommend this to anyone considering a visit to Rome. You do not have to be a Wine Drinker to enjoy this Day. A special thanks also to Vladimir who was a great guide & brought us into Frescati where we all enjoyed a truly delicious Italian Gelato!

I have been on plenty of winetours all over the world and this has been one of my favourites to date! Our guide Paoula was so pleasant and informative. The views over the vineyards are stunning. The whole experience was so relaxed and we were not rushed after the wine tasting session. A great change from the hustle and bustle of Rome. Max our tour guide in Frascati town was a breath of fresh air... highly entertaining. I would highly recommend this wine tour.

The entire experience was outstanding! A beautiful vineyard, wine house and lunch in town, Paola and her family take great pride in their family business and is so knowledgeable. I highly recommend this tour for anyone. I loved it. I am having 2 cases shipped home!!

Antonio the guide, was excellent. He took time to not only show us the property, but give us lessons on how to grade the wine and enjoy it. The food was excellent, wine was great, left with 12 bottles. Highly recommend!

It was really value for money. Interesting to hear about the winemaking, and VERY nice to be shown around the city. So charming town. The guide really managed to create a great atmosphere.
