Top 10 things to in Frankfurt

Situated on Germany's scenic River Main, Frankfurt's soaring skyline has earned it the nickame "Mainhattan." But beneath the sleek skyscrapers lies a trove of historic and cultural treasures. Here are ten of the "Main" attractions! (No more puns, we promise!)

  • 1. Schirn Gallery

Located in the city's historic center, the Schirn hosts only temporary exhibitions, making it a favorite attraction for Frankfurt's returning visitors, as well as new ones!

  • Naturmuseum Senckenberg

    2. Naturmuseum Senckenberg

Go for the extensive fossil and geological exhibits if you like, but the attractive dioramas and imposing dinosaur skeletons make it one of the best places to visit with kids!

  • Main Tower

    3. Main Tower

The cylindrical Main Tower is an icon of the Frankfurt cityscape. Reserve a table at its 53rd-storey restaurant to admire the views over dinner and cocktails.

  • MyZeil

    4. MyZeil

Massimiliano Fuksas' spectacular glass architecture makes Frankfurt's premier shopping mall as much a sightseeing attraction as a mecca for great deals and leading brands.

  • 5. Festhalle Frankfurt

Once the largest domed building in Europe, the entertainment venue and convention center continues to impress sightseers today. Check the program for upcoming concerts and events!

  • Alte Oper Frankfurt

    6. Alte Oper Frankfurt

Built in 1880, the city's old opera house was an architectural and acoustic triumph! It was partly destroyed in World War II, but extensive restorations saw it reopen in 1981.

  • 7. Frankfurt Opera

Frankfurt's cultural prominence is at least partly down to its outstanding modern opera house. It's one of the best in Europe, so book early for the best value seats!

  • Commerzbank-Arena

    8. Commerzbank-Arena

The former Forest Stadium is home to the city's biggest sporting events and concerts. It's hosted talents from the Brazilian football team to Bruce Springsteen! Who will you see?

  • Palmengarten

    9. Palmengarten

Plan a picnic at one of Europe's most spectacular botanical gardens. Don't panic if it rains – just head to the impressive tropicarium and you'll soon forget about it!

  • Frankfurt Zoo

    10. Frankfurt Zoo

Frankfurt's historic zoo remains one of the world's most important, with 500 species roaming the various enclosures. If you leave wanting more, check out the city's Opel Zoo, too!

The tour was amazing. The guide was very helpful and fun, he is a good man who loves his job. Sunday is the best day to go because then you can speed around the city while everyone stares at you flying by.

Absolutely worth while. We were in Frankfurt for 2 days and bought the card to mainly move around freely. It also proven to be of a very good values in other instituyions like meseums.
