Monte: 1 Hour Tuk-Tuk Private Tour with Traditional Toboggan

3. Monte: 1 Hour Tuk-Tuk Private Tour with Traditional Toboggan

Enjoy this adventurous tour of Monte Village and Funchal with an exhilarating toboggan ride at the end. Admire beautifully decorated streets and visit the Church of Our Lady of the Mount. Starting at the Old Town, see the “painted doors” throughout the streets of Santa Maria, where numerous doors were painted by different artists giving this street a unique glow. Also, admire the picturesque details of cobblestone floors and the façades of the old houses on Rue de Santa Maria. Next, continue towards Monte and visit the Church of Our Lady of the Mount. The structure that is visible today for all its visitors was completed back in 1818 and is one of the most sought sites by churchgoers and tourists in general. After visiting Monte, dare to ride some toboggans, more commonly known as “Carreiros do Monte." Toboggan riding was traditionally a means of transportation by locals who wanted to travel quickly from Monte´s village to Funchal. This adventurous and old-fashioned transportation appeared around the 1850s and is still in use today.

What people are saying about Foz do Douro

I'M RATING A 2 HOUR TOUR (not 3 hour). Signed up for 3-hour tour which was canceled due to only one participant signing up…they were able to switch me to the 2-hour tour with Dominique, a travel expert intern from the Netherlands. Excellent, well-informed guide with a knack for taking us to see the hidden gems in town. Only advice I can give is make sure you know how to start and stop the Segway PRIOR to embarking on the tour (they give you time to learn it in a square). Porto is nothing but cobblestone roads, hills, and sidewalks with large lips that the Segway must navigate, so be comfortable knowing when you have to add “more power” to get up the sidewalks and hills! Definitely worth the money for this informative, fun way to see Porto—even saw the “prettiest McDonalds” in the world…it has chandeliers!! Highly recommend…ask for Dominique!!

Superb, the guide is French, and despite his young experience of Porto he knows the city and its history well. just a small downside, it was provided a bottle of water that we did not have.

Julio, a young guide, took us through the city perfectly. Together with another couple we had a great three-hour tour with the ebike. I highly recommend this tour!

Huge, I recommend it to everyone. You will discover all port in a very short time!

Tereza was the perfect guide. very informative and friendly
