Full description
After a short walk through the narrow streets of the hamlet, you will be led back in time with a visit to the ancient imperial castle. It rises about 800 meters high in a splendid position overlooking the town and the valley, offering wonderful views of the Tavoliere, the Monti Dauni, and (weather permitting) up to the Gargano Sea. After the first stage, walking through the historic center of the village, you will arrive in Via Sant'Angelo where, in addition to the typical local houses built with solid walls and exposed stone, stands the homonymous Church. The current building was rebuilt in a neoclassical style between the two world wars but the first documents trace its origins back to the 12th Century. Continuing on, you will visit the master church dedicated to Saint Nicholas which, although rebuilt in the Baroque style in the 16th Century and later remodeled in the 20th Century, has Norman origins. The church has a very gorgeous appearance thanks to its rococo forms and has a very rich interior with golden stuccos, medallions, fake columns, and some statues of saints. At the end of the tour, you will visit the Sant Andrea Apostolos Church. This is a small church, perhaps Byzantine, which despite being remodeled several times is the oldest in the village. Outside you notice the slightly gabled façade, which is a little triangular like many others of the Apulian tradition in the Romanesque style, and the bell tower which, over the course of time has been partially walled and almost crushed. In the small and intimate interior, from the unusual irregular polygonal plant, there are two naves that welcome some interesting works, including the walnut choir, a seventeenth-century wooden crucifix of the Neapolitan school, a sculptural group depicting the Madonna of the help, and the most recent frescoes of the vault by Enzo Liberti in 1945.
