Full description
The village of San Gimignano, the Chianti wine area, and the medieval city of Siena are all located in the heart of scenic Tuscany. On this full-day tour you’ll stop to visit these attractions and learn about the region’s history and traditions. Your first stop will be San Gimignano, a magnificent example of a medieval urban town, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You’ll have free time to explore the center, with its splendid squares, palaces, churches, and the magnificent towers. Afterwards you will head out for the Chianti countryside to the unique location where your lunch and two wine tastings will take place. Once you hop off the bus, you will be led around the splendid estate until you reach its ancient medieval chapel; here you will be introduced to the estate's fascinating history and background. Then head for the villa's panoramic terrace where you will enjoy your first delicious wine tasting of Chianti Classico and some snacks while sitting on large wine barrels. The route will then continue to the restaurant: your typical Tuscan lunch will be accompanied by two excellent products of the estate itself, a "Riserva" and an IGP wine. Take your time after lunch to wander about and relax in the villa's lushious gardens. In the afternoon you’ll stop for sightseeing in Siena. There are official guides (English, Spanish, French, and Russian speakers), who will lead your tour of the city center. See the magnificent Cathedral and the Town Hall in the Piazza del Campo, site of the world famous Palio horse race.

It was a good tour but wayto long from Lucca

I did this tour from Lucca and it ended up being a 15 hour day which is way too long. Pick up from Lucca was a bit late and main bus had to pick us up on the way. It was a full tour - large group but was well organised for such a large number. The tour itself went reasonably quick but advertises 11 hours and was told 13 when I arrived. Tour guide was very experienced and informative. I felt the meal at the winery was ok a bit more pasta would have been appreciated the servings a bit more for some lot less for others. I was pretty pleased with the tour and I would recommend it but it is quite exhausting and I am a fit person.

    Very stressful but worth seeing

On the whole a successful day trip. The shuttle bus to Florence arrived 30 minutes late in the morning. There was utter confusion at the collection point in Florence. Since we booked this excursion with a German-speaking tour guide, we were very disappointed that this trip was carried out in six languages. When we passed a sight, the German announcement only came when we were long past. The wine tasting was very clear and practically over. Lunch was ok. The landscape and sights were impressive.
