Full description
Head out from Florence into the rolling green hills of Tuscany and Umbria to discover the architectural jewels of Assisi and Cortona. Your 11-hour tour begins in Assisi, the home of San Francesco. Your guide will lead you along the narrow, winding streets of the medieval town as you learn about its history. Inside the Basilica of San Francesco d’Assisi you’ll admire Giotto’s frescos of the life of San Francesco and discover why this is such an important pilgrimage site. See the interior of the Basilica of Santa Chiara, dedicated to a follower of San Francesco. Afterwards you’ll have free time for a stroll around this mystical city. Your tour will then continue with a visit to Santa Maria degli Angeli Church, the birthplace of the Franciscan Order. Cross back into Tuscany to the town of Cortona, built by the Etruscans, and noted for its architectural wonders and panoramic views over the surrounding landscape. Cortona is also well known as the setting for the movie, Under the Tuscan Sun.

Great tour, the itinerary seemed very well planned, first to Cortona and from there to Assisi, always in some places one would like more time, but the truth is that it is difficult to get everything together. Giuliano, the guide in charge of the excellent tour, very good disposition and knowledge of the subject, and in the same way Victoria, the person in charge of the tour in Assisi, friendly, knowledgeable about the subject and makes the walk very pleasant. Two years ago I went on a similar tour, it was totally different and it made me re-enchant with the area and the places. Totally recommended.

No time to explore

The meeting location in Florence was poorly indicated in the instructions and our group almost missed the bus. The tour was in two languages so one group sat while the guide spoke Spanish then the other group sat while the guide spoke the same information in English. In total we spent an hour standing waiting while the other group had their translation. It would have been great to have had that time to look around. There was very little free time to explore Cortona or Assisi on our own.
