Full description

Discover world-famous paintings, sculptures, and tapestries with this timed entry ticket to the Accademia Gallery in Florence. See iconic pieces by Michelangelo like 'the Prisoners', 'St. Matthew' and the statue of David. View works by other famous masters like Bartolini.

Admire the 5.17-meter marble statue representing the Biblical hero David, a favored subject in Florentine art. The statue soon came to symbolize the defence of civil liberties embodied in the Republic of Florence, an independent city-state threatened on all sides by more powerful rival states and by the hegemony of the Medici family.    In the adjacent rooms, which were part of two former convents, important works of art are collected here from the Academy of Design, the Academy of Fine Arts and from suppressed convents.  Recently the Gallery has been further enriched by the important collection of old musical instruments from the Cherubini Conservatory, the Department of Musical Instruments.

Buying the ticket online was pretty easy. However you would still need to get an actual ticket once you get to the museum. I guess it is quite useful in making sure that you get a spot to get in as tickets on the official museum website gets sold out fast.

The description of how to admit sounded formidable, with all the coloured rooms etc. I thought I was in a spy movie. But luckily, when we arrived, there were the museum personnel who directed us to the place to collect tickets, so all ok. The only thing possibly worth seeing is David.

Truly amazing! Loved this museum and all the sculptures but casually walking past this masterpiece is surreal. If you are in Florence definitely try not to miss this opportunity. I’ve used get your guide throughout my 3 month visit of Italy and one week in Munich and so far everything I’ve booked has been worth it. Read the reviews and talk to people you meet on other tours, they often have great tips.
