Full description

Discover world-famous paintings, sculptures, and tapestries with this timed entry ticket to the Accademia Gallery in Florence. See iconic pieces by Michelangelo like 'the Prisoners', 'St. Matthew' and the statue of David. View works by other famous masters like Bartolini.

Admire the 5.17-meter marble statue representing the Biblical hero David, a favored subject in Florentine art. The statue soon came to symbolize the defence of civil liberties embodied in the Republic of Florence, an independent city-state threatened on all sides by more powerful rival states and by the hegemony of the Medici family.    In the adjacent rooms, which were part of two former convents, important works of art are collected here from the Academy of Design, the Academy of Fine Arts and from suppressed convents.  Recently the Gallery has been further enriched by the important collection of old musical instruments from the Cherubini Conservatory, the Department of Musical Instruments.

We both enjoyed our visit to the museum and seeing the statue of David was fabulous. The museum is well worth visiting. A bit of confusion finding the ticket exchange outlet as the number on the details we had didn't seem to marry with those of the outlets - note there are two sets of numbers on the street walls. Our ticket should have included audio but when we were inside the museum we were asked to pay an additional 5euro.

David did not disappoint… tickets were in hot demand, glad we booked ahead, collecting tickets felt chaotic due to sheer number of confused people milling around the office but staff in door were helpful and we quickly collected tickets and got in on time. Used Rick Steve’s audio free guide on iPhone instead of €6 each inside.

Seeing the real "David Van Michelangelo" is definitely worth it. No drumming around the image. As reported, picking up the tickets was a bit of a queue at the counter. You must be seated with 1 person, however if you have purchased tickets for students or children above 12 years old, you must show their passports at the counter. The other people can already join the queue at the correct time. Everything is arranged correctly. The security attendants are happy to help you if you are not sure where to get your tickets or if you have to queue. Please do not take a water bottle of more than 50cl in your backpack.
