Full description
Start this tour at the Piazza Della Repubblica, which was once the forum, the center of the ancient Roman city of Florentia. Head to Orsanmichele, a lovely medieval building with a peculiar history. Learn how it was transformed and later adorned with sculptures by Donatello, Brunelleschi, and others. Follow your guide through the spectacular Piazza Della Signoria and admire beautiful Renaissance sculpture and the landmark Palazzo Vecchio, the medieval palace, and the town hall. Pass through the Uffizi Courtyard. Here you’ll have a chance to see views over the Arno River and the famous Ponte Vecchio. Discover how the oldest bridge of Florence survived floods and wars throughout history. Pass the Bargello, a medieval fortress and tower, which is now home to sculptures by Michelangelo and others. Continue to the Cathedral Square to admire the dome built by Filippo Brunelleschi and hear all about its construction. Stop at a typical Florentine Gelateria for a taste of delicious ice cream, made the old-fashioned way. Continue your tour to Palazzo Medici, the prototype of the Renaissance palace. Once home to the bankers who made a fortune and practically founded the flourishing of the arts in fifteenth-century Florence. The tour ends in Piazza San Lorenzo. Here is the first Renaissance church designed by Brunelleschi with the patronage of the Medici. Find out why its façade was never finished and how Michelangelo was considered an outlaw and fled from Florence. The tour can be customized, so it is ideal for those visiting Florence for the first time as well as for seasoned visitors.
