Full description

Visit Florence's religious center on a guided tour inside the Baptistery, Cathedral (Duomo), and the Opera del Duomo Museum.

Enjoy a comprehensive guided visit to the interior of Florence Cathedral, one of the largest and most important churches in the world. Construction began in 1296 and ended only in 1436, with the creation of the magnificent dome by Filippo Brunelleschi.

See the Baptistery, one of the oldest buildings in Florence, built in the Florentine Romanesque style. Then visit the Opera del Duomo Museum, a site that collects original masterpieces from the Duomo Complex.

Among the most important works on display are the original Gates of Paradise by Ghiberti, and Michelangelo's Pietà Bandini. The museum also houses one of the largest collections of Donatello's work in the world.

Finally, climb the three-storied Giotto's Belltower and admire the city skyline dominated by Brunelleschi's immense dome. (Climbing of Giotto's belltower is reserved at 12:45pm for participants to our morning tour and at 6:00pm for participants to our afternoon tour).

Our guide Sylvia was very knowlegeable! We recieved information in the Cathedral, Baptistery and museum and later when we visited the outside we could understand better the art that was displayed on the outside of the monuments. We brought backpacks accidentally and a coordinator gladly took them to the museum for us to pick them up later. They give you a ticket that allow you to come back later to climb the bell tower at your convenience. Would recommend this guided visit to skip the long lines and get valuable information about the things you see.

The tour was fantastic, especially the museum piece. It was properly paced, not hurried and I enjoyed a little break when we skipped the Baptistery to attend later on our own due to long lines to get in. It felt great to bypass the long lines to get into cathedral. The cathedral itself isn’t as richly decorated as one comes to expect in Florence but the outside is fantastic. The tour guide was very polite, composed and courteous and I enjoyed her style.

Contender for my favorite tour of my 2.5 week Italy Trip. Tour guide Camilla was absolutely phenomenal at providing the historical context of each stop on the Duomo tour. She was able to connect some many dots for us that we were able to reference throughout our Italy trip. The tour did not feel rushed. We spent an appropriate amount of time at the Baptistery, Cathedral, and Cathedral Museum (which contains the original items of the Cathedral). You will have a heightened and inspired appreciation for Florence after this tour. After the tour, we got more free time in the Museum. Then a reserved time to ascend the bell tower at 6pm (for the afternoon tour). Thus, tour started at 2:30pm and we were finished with the bell tower around 7pm. Long afternoon but it was incredible.
