Full description

Embark on a nighttime adventure into the waters of the Laguna Grande and see millions of glowing plankton. Paddle in a two-person glass-bottom kayak (except on Tuesdays, when regular kayaks are used) for approximately 30-minutes through the mystical mangrove channels leading to the natural reserve of the Laguna Grande. See the microscopic plankton capable of producing natural light at the touch of your hand. Explore these amazing organisms up close as your professional guide takes you on a journey to discover all their secrets. Learn how this fragile and unique ecosystem maintains a perfect balance of life, and what you can do to protect such a special place. Paddle in this safe and closed environment, and watch as the water comes alive with millions of glowing plankton. Be aware that the bio bay is an unpredictable natural phenomenon that may be influenced by multiple factors. Bioluminosity levels can vary from very visible to minimal or none without any prior notice.

The full moon phase may also affect the visibility of the bioluminescence. In the event of this happening, alternate methods such as the use of a tarp will be incorporated in order to appreciate it.

The guides were really friendly and funny, the sunsets and bioluminescent plankton were stunning. What a fun little adventure! If you're worried about covid, know that to make sure it's as dark as possible for the bioluminescence to be visible, there's a single tarp that's used to cover all of the kayaks' occupants at one time. Bring a mask - still worth seeing. Would definitely do this one again!

We are glad we participated in this experience but didn’t realize that during a 6 hour excursion we kayaked for less than 2 hours. There were multiple pickups in San Juan (we were the first) and some participants were running late and we had to wait for them. When we arrived there were at least 4 other groups kayaking in the bay which led to traffic jams and collisions in the mangrove passage. The guides were excellent. If I were to do this again, I wouldn’t book on the weekend and I would look for a small group experience.

Good tour to see the bioluminescent bay. A bit on the crowded side with multiple tours at the same time and the guides enjoyed yelling to each other throughout the tour continuously. Light kayak paddle through dark forest waterways was definitely the highlight other than seeing the glowing organisms with every paddle stroke in the water
